done!
Zierdt Road is being widened from near Gate 7 to Madison Boulevard, a distance of about 3.5 miles. A new "multiuse path" will be built along the west side of the road.
In addition Martin Rd is set for upgrades

Huntsville Director of Urban Development Shane Davis said the city is currently acquiring the right-of-way needed to expand Martin Road west of the arsenal; construction is expected to start in early 2016.

The $25 million project will widen Martin Road for a distance of three miles, with sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes in each direction. Two old bridges will also be replaced.

Davis said the city has $18.2 million in state and federal funding, including a grant from the Alabama Transportation and Rehabilitation Improvement Program, to put toward Martin Road. Huntsville has pledged $6.7 million in matching money, he said.

One correction: The multiuse path on Zierdt Road will be on the east side next to the fence for Redstone Arsenal. The thinking is that the pedestrians and bicyclists would not have to cross roads if they were on the east side where there are no intersections. Presently, you can see that there is space on the east side between the new north bound lanes which are under construction and the Arsenal fence.

The interesting new road project will be the extension of Hughes Rd. to Kellner Rd. in the Town Madison development. It seems like an overpass will need to be built over Madison Blvd. so that likewise an overpass can be built over I-565 to connect with Kellner Rd. on the south side of I-565. It just seems to steep to begin at the same elevation as Madison Blvd. and all of the sudden increase in grade to an overpass over I-565. Therefore, this seems like it will an involved and expensive project. The meeting at Madison City Hall on Oct. 1st will have the drawings showing the design of this project.

I agree...will be interesting to see the drawings & design of the Hughes Rd extension! Wouldn't that put an overpass directly next to the Denver Mattress/Furniture Row place??

Just realized that the new overpass will cut through Madison Golf Center where I frequent. Seems like this place will need to either relocate or renovate. Also, seems like beautified Madison city "gateway" on the end of Hughes road needs to be destructed and relocated.

There is an agreement with the state that this project needs to be completed no more than 48 months, so it will be done by 2019.

It's a pity they didn't go to the school of "how to expand a road in reasonable time"...4 years? Are they digging and asphalting by hand?

It's sort of amazing. They cleared the trees and such on the east side of Zierdt a couple of years ago, then did nothing for about a year. Then this year, they worked like gangbusters and finished the northbound side from just north of Edgewater Drive almost to Highway 20. For the past month or so they've done absolutely nothing that I can see, other than sod the median. I don't know what they're doing south of Edgewater because I never go that way. You'd think they could finish what they start without long pauses. Winter and wetter weather are just around the corner.

There's a swamp (I suppose the PC term is "wetland", but it's a swamp) right in front of the Edgewater/Zierdt intersection and absolutely nothing has been done there. Not sure what their plans are, but it looks like it could take forever to do whatever it is.
