Looks like the rain bands on the SW edge of the storm are approaching the border. Allendale SC about 50 miles to my NE is getting it.

lol, I saw that. Definitely doing that for attention. Wind was 30 mph gusting to 40 mph at 10 am yesterday at Myrtle Beach; peak was 33 mph gusting to 45 mph. Definitely something you'd feel walking into but not a challenge; I have hiked in 50-55 mph sustained.

Mandatory evacs for anyone within 1 mile of these rivers. This is what I was talking about. Anyone close to a river or getting these orders need to leave. These 2 rivers are overflowing big time.

Rain totals over 15" from 09/12 to 09/15.
Keep in mind that NC-ON-86 (the one that reported 30.71") did have a full gauge at OBS time today and yesterday. Meaning that if they did not empty it exactly when it completely filled, the actual rainfall would be higher...

I was living in south Florida in 1985 but returned to Long Island to visit family and friends in September when Hurricane Gloria hit.....was without power for 2 1/2 weeks mostly due to trees falling and taking down power lines as they crashed to the ground...the first few days without power was like party time but after a week everyone began to get antsy....no fun at all to be without power for almost 3 weeks

Hurricane Gloria first made landfall in North Carolina.

Thanks for all the serious weather members here for keeping us all posted....I personally gave up TV 10 years or so ago and this forum is better for current info than anywhere else online. Thanks !

I feel sheepish posting obs given what our friends to the east have experienced :/

With that said, it's dark, windy and rainy here in the Upstate. It's been cool watching the clouds whip by all afternoon. Everything that could blow away is tied down, rain gauge is recently emptied. We'll see. My guess is 4" rain over the next 24 hours.

I have a friend who lives in upstate NC too - she says much the same. A bit of wind, rain, but nothing major. Her relatives, however, lived just south of Wilmington and had to leave and won't know what they are going back to when they are allowed back. It's a roll of the dice and you're not in control.
