How will New Orleans handle a major storm serge?

I remember living in Freeport, TX when Ike was approaching. We had a levy like NO and the water came within a couple feet of the top of the levy. I had 2 houses there then. We got lucky.

Tropical storm warning was issued for me this afternoon. At this time, looking like the worst of Ida will miss me with the center to my east. Neighboring parish to my east is under a hurricane warning. A wobble to the west could put me more in the path.

Fri 27Aug 11pEDT/10pCDT: Winds 80mph(130km/h), moving NW 15mph(24km/h), pressure 989mb. Pressure up a tad after Cuba but given improving structure the storm will likely begin further intensification later tonight. Hurricane winds extend up to 25miles (35km) from center, TS winds 115miles(185km).

Sat 1220aEDT/1120pCDT - Apparently air recon finding the low level and mid level centers of storm misaligned, they like to be neatly stacked like a two layer cake. Even with an eye emerging on satellite. Wants to strengthen but need better alignment. That could happen overnight or tomorrow then should be free to rapidly intensify. Given how potent it looks on satellite that may be sooner rather then later. https://twitter.com/pppapin/status/1431466417933668355
