Megaload news! New plan required after megaload on U.S. 12 in Idaho causes long delay | Idaho | Idaho Statesman (http://www.idahostatesman.com/2011/02/04/1514723/new-plan-required-after-megaload.html#storylink=omni_popular - broken link)

The first megaload up Highway 12 had 10 delays exceeding the allowed 15 minutes, one lasting 59 minutes. Now Conoco-Phillips is required to submit a new plan before sending the second load on its way... Next megaload is scheduled to roll on Monday.

Big surprise huh?
I'm sure the appropriate political contributions appeared in the appropriate coffers with no delays whatsover, though. So it's not all bad news.

My question is why didn't they use highway 90? NO tight curves like 12 oh duh, much wider, they could still keep it open for traffic...

It seems like the obvious choice, doesn't it? But a previous post explained that it is because the loads can't pass under some of the bridges.

It sure looks like they've made a mess of it. Not the greatest quality video but it really does not look like things are going the way ITD had hoped. No suprise there.

I've only driven I90 between Spokane and the St. Maries turnoff, but most Highways are set up so the offramps and onramps can be utilized by overheight loads. Stiill a shame their isn't a better solution.

Wow, what a nightmare. I sort of suspected they didn't actually have a clue what they were doing with those giant things on that tiny road. And attempting it in winter??? Insanity.
