mtngirlatheart-congratulations on coming here! I absolutely love it here and I'm not moving again! No kidding, I'm dun-faa. Staying. Love it here!

I thought I wanted to come back home (north of Seattle...Edmonds...Everett...Camano Island...Burlington). Phfaaww! I am home right here in Kellogg, ID. This is an old mining town and for history buffs like myself it is a dream come true.

Kellogg, ID, is home to Dave Smith Motors, it is the number one seller of Chrysler motorcars in the world. True! Apprently the founder, Dave Smith, was killed in a tragic snorkeling accident years ago but his family is keeping the fine tradition of selling Chrysler products over the internet and then in person going. Our son is hoping to land a job with them and I am busy working in a Kellogg Medical Clinic doing Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. I am it...I run it entirely. I work for an outfit out of Tallahassee, FL, that is a subsidiary of Lincare (homehealthcare, oxygen).

Couldn't be happier than I am right now. Great rental house, great little town to live in and the best chance in the world to get the best possible price on Chrysler's version of one of these.

2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietta

This is the 2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It is coming from a company that is now owned by Fiat, as is Chrysler Motors. Fiat also owns the maker of this car, Alfa Romeo. This car has a 1.6L Multi-Aire Fiat-inspired motor that apparently is blowing away UK test drivers of it. Recessed rear-door handles, a European interior that pays undue attention to detail and a streamlined body design that just screams "take me out and flog me mercilessly, please!"

Chrylser is building their version of this car to sell to us over here. They're building it at their Belvidere, IL, factory and they're working on it as I type this out. I can't wait to see it. If I like it I may pursue buying one of them. Chrysler's version will sell for much less, much like their Caliber prices out, because the Giulietta-clone from Chrysler is the replacement for the Caliber. Only this car will look much better than the Caliber and by all rights it will handle and drive much better than the Caliber, too.

Anyway, I am so happy for you, mtngirlatheart! I know you will love it over here in northern Idaho. This is God's country over here and I'm staying put. Welcome!

Fascinating, Elko! Is it going to be called the Giulietta, too? Now (since I'm researching cars) how will it take to being flogged on black ice, or dusty dirt roads? Hmmmm...

Glad you've settled in so well already!

Talking about interesting places and people in NID, has anyone been to the Bird Aviation Museum in Sagle? It is utterly fascinating. It is open by appointment over the winter, and reopens with regular hours in May: Bird Aviation Museum and Invention Center
Here's a video about the founder, Forrest Bird--aviator, designer, inventor (of the respirator, among other things), one of the most amazing minds today:
Forrest Bird, The Birdman of Idaho - 60 Minutes - CBS News

Wow! I don't know whether to be ashamed I'd forgotten, or elated that you posted the pics! so I'll be both! Guess you've been there! That was a few months before we visited the museum. I just watched the 60 Minutes video about Bird--a great man, and beautiful shots of Lake Pend Oreille. Hope he's still doing okay.

Clark Fork Fantast-well, no, Chrysler will name the car something other than Giulietta, that name is taken by its maker, Alfa Romeo. And just how well it handles is going to have to be found out by test-driving and reading reviews of the car. Believe me you'll see tons of them on the net if you look, especially starting in about 6 months. They start coming out as soon as the carmakers have made the new car and release the first production models out to the press for test-driving. I'd look around July-August-September-October of 2011 for the first reviews of this new compact car from Chrysler. I wouldn't mind if they called it Caliber but I really think they'll give it a new name all their own. The domestic automakers are all doing so well lately.

We took a drive out towards Coeur d' Alene today, pretty much near I-90. Saw the place where the overflow water comes in during the winter from Lake Coeur d' Alene. Then later in spring they take it out of there and grow crops. Fascinating and beautiful. Near the north fork of the Coeur d' Alene River and Cataldo. Beautiful country. Absolutely gorgeous.
