The federal government has a guest-worker program for agriculture workers, but farmers say it's expensive to use and inflexible
What they mean is they don't want to have to PAY for visas for LEGAL seasonal migrant workers nor follow the steps required to ensure these workers don't just come here legally then STAY here.

That is what it is really all about. They want to USE illegal immigrants, as cheap as possible.

Why doesn't the federal govt get people off of the entitlement of unemployment benefits and send them to work these farms?

In many cases the unemployment pays much more than picking crops. In other cases the unemployed are too old or not physically fit to pick crops. If they don't know Spanish that will be another drawback. You need a reality check as to how these farmers work the system for bigger profits.

I have better idea. How about on those jobs that Americans can and will do that the illegals are fired and replaced by Americans just as long as it is a fair wage to at least the equivilant of what their unemployment pays even if the government has to subsidize it?

I've been telling the anti-Mexican crowd virtually the same thing for months............to no avail.

Actually, it's the entire agriculture business, including the meatpackers.

Anti-Mexican crowd? You mean anti-illegal and lawbreakers crowd, don't you? When there were raids on meatpacking places Americans lined up around the corner for those jobs. If you think that illegals are only in crop picking and meat packing you also need a reality check.

That’s it in a nutshell. They ONLY want illegal workers. This is prevalent in several industries, particularly, in the service sector. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, if they ever change the laws and start issuing driver’s licenses to illegals, truckers will join the ranks of the so-called jobs “Americans won’t do.” The Teamsters won’t stop it. As long as illegals pay dues, that’s all that matters.

Look at the SEIU and its burgeoning illegal membership. That’s precisely why they’re advocates for CIR and all pro-illegal agendas, and why they oppose E-Verify and other enforcement measures. In fact, they probably have a greater vested interest in illegal immigration than La Raza. Folks had better wake up.

Of course when they refer to “immigrants” they actually mean illegal aliens. Legal immigrants don’t need amnesty, and are already protected by our labor laws.

Calling SEIU a “union of immigrants,” Henry said passing immigration reform would boost the economy by allowing more people to contribute to the U.S. economy and stop exploitation of immigrant workers by employers.

Now that the DREAMact was shot down and all of these new immigration bills for more enforcement are popping up. I expect to hear demands for opposing bills and attempt to block legal bills. Any new oppositions or blocking attempt is just a life preserver because they're in a panic.

Why can't farmers nogociate with the laws already on the books?

You'd think so, as most types of farmers are subsidized up to their asses by the gov't...
