I would not be surprised many illegals are being used to clean up and rebuild from all the recent tornado damage in Alabama. This would have been a perfect opportunity to put long time unemployed citizens in Alabama back to work.
They bused them into New Orleans after Katrina and they never left.
I agree that Boompa's estimates are unrealistic. However, a very real possibility if labor costs increase (it should be noted that this can happen by other means than a direct wage increase. If replacement labor is less productive, for instance, employers will have to higher more employees or make other adjustments that will be costly) to a certain point it could very easily create a situation where many producers will no longer be able to compete against imports causing them to go out of business. The important thing to realize is that when these businesses close down, it's entire communities that are affected. There are whole support industries that employ skilled Americans that are completely built around agriculture, from welders and machinists to equipment dealers, parts stores, and chemical dealers. None of this is set in stone, but modern agricultural producers operate on very thin margins as it is. It's just something you should consider.
Only in the case of my area the businesses didnt close down they adapted.
As I said only about 25% of ag jobs are filled by illegals. I dont see a collapse I see them adapting. Ga got caught with their pants down. They assumed that they could continue cheating indefinetly. Next year they will do better becase they wont be depending as heavily on the illegal work force.
The supporting industries such as the canneries etc will adapt as well.
The thin margin may be exaggerated and I have not seen conclusive proof that they pass on the savings to their consumer.
Roadside stands abound and no where is it easier to hide income than a pay by cash set up. How does the gov know exactly how many bushel of what ever vegi was harvested v.s what went to waste?
Even dairy farmers many sell whole milk on the side.
You do make valid observations.
No, seriously. I feel just the opposite.
I also feel the need for very high trade tariffs.
Or at the very least matching trade regulations that our partners impose upon us. Try selling rice to Japan.....
Why does a $15,000 Harley sell for $50,000.00 in japan?

You do know that this was already tried. See protectionism, mercantilism, Smoot-Hawley Tariff, and various other economic policies.

The host, is / are those that employ and house them.
In that case what do you care? If the immigrants are actually parasites then the hosts are just getting what they "deserve", right?
