Cinco de Mayo should be removed form our vocabulary, Mexico doesn't even celebrate it, its only recognized in one small area of Mexico, the State of Pueblo.

I wouldn't count my chickens yet about illegal immigrants becoming citizens. Besides it wouldn't only be Mexicans that might become citizens via an amnesty so why should Cinco de Mayo be made an official holiday? What about non-Mexican illegals then shouldn't they get a holiday in honor of a historical event in their native countries also?

If it were truly an American holiday workers would have the day off. It is not recognized as a holiday in our country nor should it be. As you said, it is just day for drinking beer and eating Mexican food. Otherwise it has no relevance at all. Same thing as St. Patrick's day. It isn't a holiday but a day to drink green beer and eat corned beef and cabbage.
