We're already here to make a "better life". And legally.
If any legal citizen drives drunk and on top of that, on the wrong side of the road. Hit another car causing injury "and" death. There are no exceptions to the rules. We already know what the consequences are with no question, our "better life" has come to an end.
Why should they be any different than us?
