I'm 1/4 Mexican and I've assimilated, so who's not assimilating?
Depends on what you mean by assimilating. I am sure most Americans version of assimilating is different than most Mexicans and their offspring, especially if they are here illegally.
As the majority of people believe, this country was created by god, and thousands of years before the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon founded the firrst city of the US territory, San Agustin FL, for thousands of years before that native americans roamed and protected the land, only in the past three centuries did the european descendants had control, and for most of that time they did so through slavery, and apartheid, the new era began after the civil rights movement of the 60's when apartheid was officially forbidden, the new earhas just culminated with the election of the first black president,
which ratified our nation as a diversified, multi-cultural one, each of these changes have been permanent in nature, we are not going back to exclusion, apartheid, slavery or any other primitive nonsense...
Wrong! We have always been multi-racial but we still have but one basic identifying culture and language. So no, we aren't muti-cultural per se. All other cultures are minority cultures living among us. They do not represent mainstream America.

Dude if you've been living here by age 6 your an American. Your so enveloped in this culture (T.V., school,friends) you can't fight it even if you tried!

Our ancestors would be appalled by the fact that we have allowed people to immigrate to this country that they created, who do not share the culture, or the value system that our Western European ancestors ingrained in American civilization. They were the very people that built this nation: and made it what it is. Our ancestors would see how immigrants who come here today, exploit this country. People who came here centuries ago, came here to GIVE; immigrants who come here today, come here to TAKE! Immigrants who come here today are lazy, and know about subsidies. Those immigrants who came here decades ago ago didn't have welfare, foodstamps, social security disability, section 8 housing, WIC programs, and they didn't care! That was not why they came, they came to work hard. Back then, unlike today, however, there was a need for manual labor.
Also, our ancestors never in a million years would have regarded "people of color" as equals in anyway. They would not have been considered for the privileges they are afforded today by the bureacracy, culture and establishment created by white people. They knew more than anybody that this thing called "diversity" was nothing more than a sham; that it would infect this country like a virus. They overwhelmingly agreed with the National Origins Act which permitted people from Western Europe to come here. Looking what has happened since the National Origins Act was abolished 44 years ago, it has become quite clear, our ancestors were right. Immigrants who come here today, represent the greatest liability our nation has faced. They don't speak the language, nor do they want to. They often have no skills, and truthfully our economy does not allow for such large increases in population year after year. Our country does not create jobs the way it once did.
Your description of "our" ancestors makes a case for the opinion shared by many people that those Western Europeans were little more than racist, murderous barbarians. Is that the impression you wish to convey to the rest of us?
Immigrants of the past made America a better place. Today's immigrants are vultures, trying to take what my ancestors created for their posterity. There is no need whatsoever for illegal aliens, H1-B visa aliens, and all the sort who do NOTHING to make this a better nation. They decrease its value, and make it more Balkanized. They are colonists/invaders, and are here to take all they can, without giving anything back. They do not pay their fair share of taxes, they do not make this a smarter place, they do nothing that we really need.

And FYI...immigrants (Illegal I take it), do pay taxes. More often than not they pay Federal taxes and never get any of it back. Unlike you or I that get nice refunds every year. They pay into Social Security which they will never benefit from. So stop talking for the sake of just talking....let's hear more facts and less personal opinions.

Actually, when the first settlers came here they wanted the natives to be included in their culture. The English learned a manner about harvesting indigenous crops from the natives, and the English in turn shared their own techniques of harvesting as well. The English wanted the natives to live in houses where they would be kept warmer, than in tepees. They wanted the native children to go to the same schools the settlers children, but the natives saw this as a way of losing their culture. Funny, how they've changed since then? Now, most of them want casinos.
Yes, the early settlers came here, for not just freedom, but for democratic rule under a free society. They established a judicial system, a system of commerce, Eventually, the U.S. would be turned into the greatest industrial power, envied by the entire world.
You have every right to be jealous. If your ancestors contributed nothing, what better way to sham a people who created something great, your people had little to do with, but to distort and castigate them as criminals.
Of course, your going to bad mouth the forefathers of this country. While European explorers were maping out the world, the people in Africa were running around naked, fighting with enemy tribes, and suffering from diseases like small pox, diptheria, typhoid, yellow fever, all of which the colonists would eventually find cures for.

And that always come from white folks who have been here for generations and have lost of all their culture. They all speak one lanuagage and eat meatloaf and Mash potatoes. They have no culture saved among the generations. So they want everyone else to be like them? Give me a break. Stop being jealous because other people have rich and diverse cultures ALONG with the American one. Stop hating on that Latino that can speak perfect english and perfect spanish. Stop hating on that Puerto Rican who loves Arroz con Pollo just as much as he does Hot dogs and Hamburgers. Stop hating on the Indian neighbors who wear their tradition clothing and while they own that Gas Station you always pump your gas at. Stop using that word assimilate. People do not have to give up their language, culture, and pride in who they are to be part of the American Society. When you say that you sound small minded and out of touch.
