Agree no bad areas in that particular town. Property taxes on a 400 thousand will be about 8 thousand. Property taxes is what keeps me from moving back.

Default Galena

Real estate taxes in IL. are quite high. But if you are thinking of retiring to IL. one of the good things this state has to offer is that it can be tax friendly when it comes to retirement accounts, pensions, 401k,403b, and retirement annuities. Other states in the country may have lower real estate taxes but any retirement account you may need to live on may be taxed at the state level. Go to Kiplinger.com and do your research before deciding on where to relocate. Just saying.

weighing it all you come out less in IL. I just want to go back even though our property taxes will by like paying a mortgage. Haven't convince husband yet. We've lived in quite a few state and IL was the highest we ever paid in property taxes in though my place here is double the cost of what I had in IL. SO, IT comes to just wanting to live there period.

OK and MO are quadruple tax states: Federal Income, State Income, Real Estate, and everything else -- which includes car, truck, van, trailers, RV/campers, mobile homes, farm equipment, schools, hospital, park, fire and police, etc. I remember when washer/dryer and televisions were taxed, too.

I always thought it was an interesting system because if you own a vehicle in these states you get an annual tax bill even if you live in one room.
