Aint it funny, how all the folks who can't see what all the fuss is about racism, seem to be undereducated white people? Hmmmmm, could that be indicative of a trend? Nah, I must just be another racist ***** who don't know his place.

I'm not sure what this rant has to do with anything.

maybe it shows that you are ignorant and racist towards us undereducated white folks. Some of us white folks are educated and do not believe or practice racism. Seems like you might be prejudice and racist.

Default highliner

Check out my racial ancestry on my profile, and then tell us who I am racially prejudiced towards? Please do so. Then you can tell me how another persons' hatred of non-white people is an issue of mine. I am multiracial, and think it quite laughable to be called a racist, for disliking those attitudes which deny my full humanity. Oh yes, sometimes I get angry. Aren't we entitled to that emotion ,too, as well as you?

just because a community is not statistically as diverse as Chicago or New York, doesnt mean the people are bad...it is the midwest, white folks dominate the area, just like hispanics that populate florida and texas, etc...doesnt make them bad people just because there arent throngs of Asians/Middle-Eastern,etc.. nationalities. If you are upset by seeing nothing but white/black people, dont move here. It is what it is...its like me calling out New Dheli for not having monster truck rallies...duh. I dont know Indy super well, but having lived in Monroe County (1 hour south), I can say if you are looking for "diversity" and acceptance, stay north of Martinsville (I was with a black friend of mine and he got a gun pulled on him in Martinsville...he was at gunpoint until the sherrif arrived)...Hoosiers are no different than any other homogenous society...what would some sophisticated west coast folks think or say if a good ole boy was driving his stomper truck through Portland with straight pipes? Probably something like "inbred so and so..dumber than a brick..etc.." every little subculture has its ugly people..leftwing elitests are just as bad as midwestern conservatives in the judgements of others..

Indianapolis is very Xenophobic and as long as you can find friends among your circle (minority), you will be fine. You can never blend with others that easily unless you "ape" them. Refer to articles by none other than Mitch Daniels, his life history and how he realized that Indiana in general is Xenophobic and rustic.

What makes a place diverse? It is when people recognize the differences and see above and beyond them. In that sense, Indianapolis is far behind major cities such as Chicago, New York, Houston and even Cleveland, OH. If you have to survive in Indianapolis, you have to accept and behave like the majority does.

Those comments led me to do some research and it seems like Indy has a very large white population with fundamental Christian values.

Although my family is also Christian, I'm concerned regarding how my family (Vietnamese) will be accepted in the community based on our ethnic background. Any input from current residents would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Do fundamental Christian values teach people to discriminate against Vietnamese people?

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not going to sit here and say that NOBODY in the area will look down on you based on your race. Despite the reputations of the two places, I doubt there are any fewer people who racially discriminate against you in Portland than in Indy.

My guess is that, amongst those who have a bias with you, most will express it by limiting their interactions with you as opposed to active opposition (shouting, name calling, etc.) You should be fine!

Huh? What does it mean to "ape" someone?

Are we discussing racial/cultural diversity or diversity of thought?
