Yes agree - that's an interesting pocket that also influences Evansville to some degree.

Once you get farther east (and south) from the Apex region, like around Seymour and points south where the terrain is more broken, the accents become more Kentuckian.

I noticed this when i was growing up in Terre Haute as well - ironically, the northside of the city where I grew up was home to more poor Appalachian whites in the city, so I heard a lot of Kentuckisms. The southside was a mix of wealthy old money and African-American neighborhoods, with the former having less of a Southern inflection, the latter of course, was eminently Southern.
