Checks out. If someone thinks that Marion is a great place to live, by all means, have at it. As you all know, I'm guilty of the same thing regarding my town. I would love to see some links though, regarding positive things about Marion, however.

I don't have a link but I do know they are very giving even in the poor condition most families are in. Food banks have had to close when they ran out of food and the community stepped up to get them restocked. People in the whole county comes out in support when one of their own has died in Iraq. The GM plant each year gives food and gifts to families in need every Christmas; this year with all GM is going through that plant helped 700 families! That is from the GM worker's own pockets not corporate BTW. Won't do any good to put up the link to the article in their local paper because the paper doesn't keep the articles online past a couple of weeks then you have to pay to see it.

They do have a very nice Christmas lights display that goes through their whole park. This year they have had to start charging $5 per car load to drive through it whereas before it was free will donations.

As I have stated before it was a nice place but so depressed now and Broker-in-Marion ticked me off with their post of lies. I don't want somebody coming to CD being told all is rosy in Marion, Indiana, with 7.5% unemployment not to mention those that have ran out of benefits, then they go through the expense of moving to find out differently. There is hope it can recover but not with the leaders they have now. Their mayor's own brother scammed the city out of 700 million in a housing rip off got off scot free AFTER the city gave him the houses to rehab. Lumber yards were left holding the bill of all the materials 2 closed down. The city is giving companies thousands of dollars to relocate there only for them to pull up stakes a year later. They built a new animal shelter to the tune of a million dollars it was full less than 2 months of being open. Now you have to pay $25 to drop off an animal and they weren't taking any animals outside city limits don't know if that is true now. So city people were dropping off the animals in the county for country folks to deal with. The mayor keeps bringing companies in (paying them to relocate there) saying they will offer hundreds of jobs then it turns out to be 10 after being there a year.

Their shopping mall has been half empty for years and now in Jan 5 more stores are closing in it I have heard. I know 2 that have been confirmed going out of business, Fashion Bug and UA. Steve & Barry's left awhile back leaving a huge anchor store empty. You know Steve & Barry's where most things were 10 bucks?

The only thing keeping that town from drowning is IWU college kids spend money and the fat cats running IWU have the money to keep the private clubs, YMCA (new this year) and the elected happy. The college kids keep the eating places, Starbucks and Wal Mart busy.

This is clearly a load of you-know-what. The city schools are in real bad shape, there is no sense of community, and other than the local taverns that you have a good chance of being shot in there is NO nightlife at all.

Hey every body. Last night it was announced that Marion just landed another plastics factory and there are going to be 3 or 4 hundred employees hired. So, as one door closes another one opens. A big for Marion. How positive is that Domergurl?

Thats really good news actually. Maybe Marion could build a new start off of this new plastics industry coming in. But they really need to focus on the schools if a couple moves in and wants to start a family. Same goes with law enforcement, and city services.

This not a new announcement. The first week they announced it, the Employment Office received over 800 applications!
