Sometimes there is more to making an out-of-state/new city move than just finding a job. People can have family things they need to take care of, real estate to sell, kids in school, etc. etc. It's not as easy as "if you don't like it here, well then, move!" I have been wanting to move for YEARS, and I am finally on the verge of making that happen, so I speak from experience.

This is true. I live in Western Washington now and am very satisfied with the politics here. Gay marriage and marijuana legal, I live in a county with free public transport. Recycling is not mandatory, but most people opt in anyway. No state income tax. Heavily populated counties have emissions testing. There is a good social safety net here.

Occasionally, I think about moving back simply because that is where most of my family lives and I could never happily afford a house here because housing prices are ridiculous. But then I have to consider all the other things I'd have to give up and I waffle if it would be worth it. I see Indiana as a complete dinosaur trying desperately to go backwards instead of forwards and change will come very slow to it. I was surprised that even KY expanded to cover the Obamacare Medicaid gap while Indiana did not. My goodness, KY is more progressive than IN. I'm embarrassed to be from IN sometimes.

I do disagree with the rural politicos in Indiana, but I have never had my self-worth so wrapped up in it that I am embarrassed to be in Indiana.

You are preaching to the choir. After 26-years years in the Navy I think I know a thing or two about what it takes to sell real estate, get passports and move a family to another country or from one state to another. Timothy on the other hand is just bashing Indy.

If you ask a local, yes, the Indy traffic is the worst traffic on earth.

Ask anyone who has lived in a major city? Indianapolis traffic is a joke. The one thing that makes me crazy is that there will be a long line of traffic and as you creep up onto the problem, it's somebody changing a tire on the side of the road. My husband and I crack that everyone needs to make sure it's not their cousin.

This happens in a lot of places, I guess, but it infuriates me when almost every freaking morning I have to drive 20 mph on 465 because there is a car on the shoulder. Changing a tire, minor fender-bender, speeder pulled over, etc. Can't we just move on without slowing down all three or four lanes to 20 mph for a whole mile?

Several police officers have been killed getting clipped on routine traffic stops, so state law was changed to make it mandatory to switch lanes or slow down for emergency personnel. This behavior has become ingrained. I don't see what's wrong with ensuring those pulled over are safe.

Rubberneckers are a huge problem here in Hampton Roads as well. Funny how something as simple as changing a tire on the side of the road can create a 15 minute delay in traffic.

I've driven a semi truck to all states except for Nevada, Maine and North Dakota. No thanks, LA can keep their congestion over there. They only have one rush hour....it's all day. Indy is pretty reasonable compared to all the other major cities I've ran. I can't wait for the I-69 extension from Evansville to be completed. My favorite stretch of freeway is the super I-70 that runs south along the airport. It reminds me of those big Texas size freeways several lanes across. (with less traffic hint hint)
