Umm, this is the Jacksonville, Florida forum. Assuming since you mentioned UC-R that you're talkin about california.

Riverside was bad in the 90s but its not now...there are bad areas near it like Mixontown & Lakawana just stay East of McDuff Ave and South of King Street and everything is lovely. Those are actually the boarder streets of Riverside.
