Some companies do have ridiculous hiring practices. For an admin assistant job, first I had to go through two hours of testing at their location. After that, I had a phone interview with the search committee (6 people). Then, I was called in for a face to face interview with the same 6 people. During the interrogation (that's what it felt like!), they told me that it's down to five candidates, but they will want to have at least two people come back for final interviews with other managers in the company. It took them two weeks to get back to me after that and I was just called yesterday to find out I didn't get the job.
At first, I was upset. Then, I said, "You know what? You were not happy with their hiring practices, so maybe it wasn't the right job for you." One thing that impressed me was the hiring manager actually called me instead of sending a rejection email. You don't get that very often these days.
