Not as obvious, but correct! For extra credit list the dealer's names with their addresses.

Pollys Pop is in the part of the building that was the auto garage when Western Auto occupied the corner building.

I am told El Pico will move to that corner, if it is ever finished.

I spent what seemed like a lot of money in that building in the days of my youth.

According to the Kansas City paper, Van Hoet's was at 15802 E 23rd, which is shown on Google Earth as being where the old C&J United Super was located on the northwest side of Kiger and 23rd, now Lee's Summit and 23rd. But I believe it was actually located on the northeast side of Kiger and 23rd.

On the northeast side was the former buff brick building at 23rd and Kiger, Raveill was there for a short time and his store might have been Max's Hardware at that time and then he moved to M-291 and 23rd. I don't remember Van Hoet's but the original hardware at that location belonged to John Brown and was called Brown's Hardware. Next to it was Brown's Variety store and next to it was Stan's Service station, the owner being John Brown's son-in-law. That whole area was torn out in the eighties.

I vaguely recall a hardware around 23rd and Sterling that might have been close to the street.

Here is some information on Bunting Hardware:

Bunting opened on west Lexington in 1930 replacing another hardware. There were over 12,000 customers on opening day according to an old Examiner article.

The store burned in 1949 along with the entire southeast portion of Lexington between Liberty and Main.

Bunting reopened one door west on Lexington at 111 w, where the vacant area is today next to Courthouse Exchange.

In July 1963 Bunting moved to the north side of the square at 124 w Maple where one of two SS Kresge stores on the square was formerly located and where the parking lot is today.

In May 1968 Bunting closed.

In January 1971, Goodwill Industries moved from 219 West Kansas to the vacated Bunting building.

In April 1975, the Bunting building housing Goodwill Industries and the Isis Shoe Store burned down.

In January 1976, Independence Urban Renewal acquired the lots for the Bunting building and the Isis Shoe building.

Before the buff brick building at 23rd and Kiger, there was THRASHERS, a little drive up ice cream place. I remember Mom taking me there when Dad was working late. The building was later moved to 23rd and Crysler, beside the then smaller DX filling station. I don't recall the name it carried by that time, but I worked there one summer when I was 13 or 14.

My Grandfather was Chief of Police D.O.Cato, and he rode a big white horse in that first Santa Cali Gon parade! I have a picture somewhere.....

I do not remember "Thrashers", but do remember the drive on North side of the DX at 23rd & Chrysler. It was "Gibsons". My folks used to take us kids occasionally for a $.25 milkshake. This would have been 1961-63 I believe. In the summertime, it was always filled with kids that would migrate over from Chrysler stadium.

I remember that place at 23rd and Kiger, also. I thought it was called Dairy King, Dairy Creme,
or some such. It was all white and the thing that struck me was they never paved the drive up area. It was all gravel. We had some mention of it on this forum back in the previous years.
