Something I did not know. Sort of takes the sails out of the replica at the Truman Library, which is not a unique bell.

The Liberty Bell replica at the Truman Library is number 54 of 55 that were reproduced in France to spearhead a national US Savings Bond Drive in 1950.

All of the replicas show the famous crack but were, in fact, built to toll.

The Treasury presented one bell to each state. However, Missouri received two.

The territories of Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Virgin Islands all received one.The District of Columbia also got one. Apparently Guam did not matter.

Missouri has two of the replicas with the one in Independence supposedly provided by the town in
France where the bells were commissioned. It would be interesting to read the dedication on all of the bells to see if they are all the same.

France has one, also. It is number 51.

Number 20 is located at the Missouri State Capitol building.

Kansas has number 7.

Colorado has number 47.

Virgin Islands received number 55.

Some of the bells ended up like the moon rocks: Lost, misappropriated, or forgotten—until the US bicentennial in 1976 when there was a frantic rush to find all of them. All are apparently now on display at some spot in each State.

Thanks for the additional info, I wasn't aware of some of this.

Nope. Why would they name a fire truck after chewing gum?

I see that the city of Independence is in the design stage to rework the Truman Road and M-78 intersection.

I cannot recall if I mentioned before but M-78 between Truman and M-7 was surreptitiously used in the fifties as a drag strip as was Pink Hill Road just off 39th Street.

I tried Pink Hill Road by myself to see what my '53 Ford would do but was always afraid a Sheriff's car was going to pop out of no where on that heavily wooded road. A quarter mile on Pink Hill was very professionally paint striped and marked by dragsters.

I dont recall if M-78 was dragster marked but it was in a too open an area for me to feel secure to go fast.

On my last trip to Independence, I looked for the painted drag marks on Pink Hill Road but guess either the city has grown too much or the dragsters have grown up.

I replaced my '53 with a '54 Ford but did not see what it would do.
