My wife says that Doug and Drew Dimmel went to Van Horn. The Dimmels lived near the corner of Newberry and 35th Street. I dated a young lady who lived on Markham and she went to Northeast. I had never heard that Raytown covered any in Manor Oaks, but then it makes no sense to me that Dimmels went to Van Horn and Susan Deal went to Northeast.

The Raytown School District has a finger that comes up to 35th St between Sterling and Crysler. Currently all of Manor Oaks is within the Independence District. It will take some searching to find a map of the old KC District boundaries to see how far east it went.

All I remember was that one friend lived on Shady Bend Dr. and another nearby. Not sure which side of E. 35th St. Another RHS friend lived in the Blue Dawn Manor subdivision, I believe on Scott Dr. This was in the early to mid-'70s.

My mother wanted to move to get us out of the Independence School District because she wasn't a fan of Alton School. I came home with dirty petticoats because we sat on the hardwood floor during storytime. She believed this meant that the school was trashy. I'm not sure my parents were aware that all we had to do was move a few blocks to change school districts. Or that there was ultimately nothing superior about the Raytown School District. As I recall, Truman High School was the better school in a number of regards.

No? I admit I didn't pay much attention. I don't think RHS was any great shakes, at sports, though, unlike RSHS. Apologies if you were a basketball player!

I mostly remember that THS had excellent student journalism and music programs. Discovered the former when I was in journalism school at M.U. and the latter when our RHS orchestra played a joint concert with Truman's (humiliating).

Here is one of many sites online about Drew Dimmel:

Very nice tribute, Casey

In another small world, I believe Doug married one of my RJH classmates and she became (or was already) a singer in their band

She might be the short-haired lady seen to the left near the end of the video

As The Classmen, "Graduation Goodbye" was one of their hits and I believe at the time it was the most-mentioned local band in the area. Casey, can you confirm any of this? Mouse?

Ha No harm, Herder Just joshin' you and a poster-to be-named-later. Glad to see you back As I recall you and I lived close to one another but I went to RSHS. A result of RHS overcrowding and under expansion All that was over and back to normal by the time you got there

You're Mizzou J-School?

Roger Maris, he of the asterisk next to his record in the baseball stats, lived in Kansas City?
