I am a hairstylist with a young family thinking of moving to kauai. Can i survive? Is there money to be made in kauai from hair? If not are any of the other islands any better? thank you.
Its pretty hard for someone else to say whether its possible or not. I would suggest that in a more rural location, people in general will probably not get personal services quite as much as a more urban area. Fewer professionals means fewer clients. Also, locals tend to favor long, natural hair for ladies.
You probably need to spend some time on Kaui and check out the coifs.
I took the time to yelp salons on all the islands and the ones i liked were in honolulu.
My new question is... If i wanted to live in or near Haleiwa but needed to commute to honolulu. tues-sat how long of a drive is it and how much would i hate it?

Totally depends on time of day and will you be sharing the road with Pearl Harbor commuters. Could be an hour, could be two. Anyone thinking of moving to Hawaii should visit first to check out situations like this first hand to see what YOU can tolerate. Best wishes.
