I'm thinking the poster meant $200 a quarter. That's still way more than I'm willing to pay so I'll search out a well/septic home.

They wrote $200/month but if they meant quarter then I might understand it a bit more but it is still high. Even with water and sewer I would expect no more than $50 a month. Without sewer, $20 or $25. I hope others here weigh in.

I did mean $200 per month. I spoke to the Johnson city water dept after getting my first huge bill and they said the average family of 4 in JC uses about 10,000 gallons per month and their bill would be $104. They said to figure on double that being outside the city limits, which would be $200 per month. I should receive my water bill within the next few days and we've been really careful this month about water usage so we'll see how much it is this time. We have had a plumber over and ruled out leaks and broken pipes.

Im not doubting you, that just shocks me as ive never seen that before.

I am a family of 4 and I used $13.76 in water this past month. I also have sewer, trash pickup, etc. and my total bill is $46- that is within the city limits. I do not live in Gray and never have, but have never seen a property utility disclosure that is anywhere near these numbers. Looking at some now, I am seeing homes outside the city limits in Gray at approximately $40, $42, $46, $80, $90 including trash pickup. That was the first 5 that I came to, and they may not be representative of everyone, but $200 seems incredibly high.

Where do you get this info? I am seeing such conflicting information. I have no doubt that theqs' bill is in fact $200/month, why would the poster lie? And the call to the water company saying outside JC that sounds normal scares the crap out of me. $200/month, or even $100/month would really offset a lot of the benefits of moving to TN.

I just don't get it. Rumor has it there's a big dam and lots of water in TN. Our last water bill was in our old house and it was, like, $100/quarter if that for 2 people.

With a family of 4 in the JC city limits my bill ran about $35-$40 per month. We made no efforts to conserve.

I am not doubting the poster's bill, im sure it was true- im just not sure why it is true. Those numbers I had were the utilities disclosures from some of the homes currently on the market in the Gray area outside of the JC limits. Granted, I only pulled the first 5 I came to on the MLS and they might have been lying, but I have doubts that each of these sellers are systematically lying either.

Regardless, if the bill is indeed $200/month for water it would be better off to live in the city limits. The increase in taxes would be offset by the decrease in water bill alone.

Within Johnson City, city limits water is 60-80 per month. I have owned a 2500 s.f. home here since 05. It used to be cheaper.

Summer utility/ AC is okay. Winter it gets high.
