All taken late Sunday afternoon, 9/28.

View from the top of the dam:

The trail we took down to the lake:

Lakeside scenes; as you can tell, I was enamored w/ the old stumps!:

Coming back from the lake, we stopped by Osceola Island as the fog crept over the river:

Where do you drive to to park and get to these hiking paths, Kamoshika. THANKS for the photos. Just beautiful.

There's a small gravel parking area about 0.3 miles from the dam. If you're heading up to the dam, it'll be on your right in the middle of a hairpin curve in the road. You'll also see a gate and a "No Hunting" sign there. Just go around the gate and the trail (an old road) is about 2.5 miles long.

Using Google Maps, you can pull up a map of the area, zoom in and click on the "Terrain" tab to see the trail. The small island (a peninsula when the water's low) near the end of the trail is where I took most of the photos. Here's an aerial view of it: Yahoo! Maps, Driving Directions, and Traffic

Gorgeous pics!! Thanks for sharing them.. Makes me want to put on my hiking boots and head out. Yes, fall in NETN is an especially nice time to live here.

(I once thought New England was the one and only place where you could experience fall foliage! I remember how shocked I was to find out otherwise)

Beautiful photos! Thanks!

Also, that camera is amazing. I wish mine took such pristine photos. I probably have no clue about my settings.

Great Pictures! Is it me or is the lake low dangerously low? Still beautiful though. I can't believe how quickly the depth goes.

I dont believe South Holston made it up to full pool this season. And, TVA lowers it each fall. We normally boat there as we live about 15 minutes from it, but we didnt this summer due to the lake level. Those are great pics!

@kamoshika

Absolutely phantastic pictures!
Can't wait to get there myself and see all those beautiful views next week

Just how do I get to where you were? I wouldn't want to spend the precious vacation time desperately trying to find some sort of "entrance" or parking space from where I can "take off". I did find the lake east of Bristol on my TN official Highway map + the short line for the dam, but there is no road going there. So, if I come from the south on Hwy 421, how can I get on from there?
