TedTAce - And the more you visit, with eash visit you will fall more and more in love with TN.

Rasbell - I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. And then the hardest part is waiting until August. November is a nice time to visit, really anytime is a nice time IMO. I don't know how much color you will see, unless it gets a lot cooler this month.
Have a safe trip and have fun.
And don't think about that crazy place while on vacation.
Make sure you let us know how your trip went when you get back, ok

Ok thank you I will. I'll try to take some good pictures. I'm going to be camping out down in Vogel state park Down in Blairsville Ga, for a week. I've been coming up for the past 10yrs every Fall to camp and hike around the blairsville area. I like it down there but it's a pretty small city. Its a good place to live if you are retired. It's only a 2hr drive up to Knoxville from there so I'll spend a whole day in and around Knoxville checking it out.

The KOA camp grounds from what I hear are pretty nice and fairly cheap. I believe that Knoxville, Sweetwater & Athens all have a KOA also.

Thanks I'll check them out. I usually camp out in the state parks. There pretty reasonable about $25 a day. I see Tennessee has quite a few state parks. I'll have to buy a annual park pass once I move up there. I'll be out hiking on my days off. :0)

Our parks are exceptional. No need for a pass, though. Admittance to all of our state parks is free.

Thank you for the info. I was just was reading about them and checking out some of the pictures online. I look forward to checking out the parks and hiking the trails. I don't think I would ever run out of places to hike up there.

When I first found out how incredible the state parks were it kind of felt like a joke. I mean some of them have very nice accommodations, restaurants and golf courses. I meant to put up this link. Tennessee State Parks

There are some TVA campgrounds that are pretty convenient. Don't know if they are open year round. Southlake RV is a commercial park closest to downtown. Or even a motel if the weather's bad. I imagine you'll want more than a day trip to chek out the city.
