where I now live, shopping choices are extremely limited and choices in the stores are much more limited than in Knoxville/Maryville. And remember, my initial search was 27 yrs ago, although I continued to look for years. After calling Dixie Lilly - I gave up. I still have a couple of pkgs of Spanish bean soup in my pantry. Even though they're four yrs old, it just makes me happy to see them on my shelf...

Makes sense! I promise to look for you if I remember. I'm almost 48 so I'm not always firing on all cylinders!

Huuuuum, I wonder if I can open a cuban cafe in Knoxville to bring some Calle Ocho flavor to the area. Will the locals go for media noches, pan con lechon, sandwich cubano, croquetas, papa rellenas, cafe cubano and my wife's killer flan? Not to mention some soft drinks straight from Calle Ocho like malta, jupina, ironbeer, matelba. You Cubans here know what I'm talking about.

Frank

There's also a lot of Florida transplants, like me, that know what you are talking about, too. I've also found that many, many of the locals are more than willing to try new tastes. Often eager. Good food of any kind usually does well.

Also a Cuban restaurant in Gatlinburg. Taste of Havana in downtown Knoxville is popular with the locals. Someone told me that there is a fish place in Farragut that is always packed and features some Cuban dishes. Don't know if he's Cuban or just from Miami (actually he is from Miami). There was a Cuban sandwich shop in Bearden that closed several years ago. There is a small Cuban presence in Knoxville. Grew up with a family in Farragut, met a guy recently who was Cuban (he didn't have to tell me, the style is unmistakable) So who can we get to recruit more Cubans? We need more Cubans!

Btw, a Spanish restaurant opened in Market Square. Go check it out!

Default Gatlinburg

Yes there is a Cuban restaurant in Gatlinburg just at the beginning of town towards Pigeon Forge, its near Hard Rock, havent been there yet but want to try it, I love a dish which is something pollo, its a breaded chicken breast flattened and fried that I always ate in FL. Would love to have a good cuban place to eat at.

My husband Tony and I are Cuban. We relocated from Miami to Sebastian, FL 3 yrs ago. Now, we are trying to relocate to TN. He's studying Culinary Arts because we want to establish a pizza shop & have some Cuban dishes in the menu like Picadillo, Cuban sandwiches & medianoches. We have been to TN 4 times this past year and have drove around Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Seymour, Alcoa, Knoxville & all other areas around. We have asked other people in TN what they think about our idea and everybody has answered that cuban food only will not make it as there's a very small community of hispanics. We have been told that Cuban Restaurants open and close within a year.

I have no idea about the tourists areas, but Knoxvillians embrace new food.
