The ugliest thing about the graffiti is that it's usually about declaring "turf". It's gang related and often the messages are threats to other gangs. The easiest way to stir up a local gang is to invent some symbol and spray it over their gang symbol as though you mean to take over their turf.

And it's not New Mexico culture -- the above poster is right, this stuff is moving in from other places, it is not "native".

Unhappy graffiti

I moved back here after 8 years - cannot wait to leave tomorrow. Crime, rude people, low pay, lack of jobs, stiffling heat bringing on another dust bowl! Too many people for water supply, high prices, high taxes - graffiti is least of problems. If you want to avoid graffiti - avoid the area!
