at 300k I'm willing to take a chance.... Worst case scenario I have a beautiful 2nd home... most people in manhattan after they have children they move to westchester, jersey, connecticut, or long island....the suburbs.... so my suburbs will be a little bit to the west... Lol

I don't know if you currently live in a doorman building but you might want to consider a guard gated community with a clubhouse. The suburbs version of a doorman and the clubhouse will be a great amenity and give you an opportunity to socialize, which is a great thing when you first move to an area where you don't know anyone. Of course the price of the homes will be more expensive as will the HOA fees.

Check the crime statistics for both, I seriously doubt it. The UES is very affluent and has a very low crime rate compared to NYC as a whole.

It may be overrated but it is safe, convenient and affluent. Of course, expensive, crowded, gritty, etc. You know what they say about familiarity breeds contempt.

We're in Midtown East.

Check out the schools in in Vegas, I hear they are not high rated.
