Odd phenomenom. If someone trashed where I live, I'd say so be it...and move on. To each his/her own. I love where I live and couldn't care less what others might think. But you transplanted Las Vegans, who have made the concious decision (albeit, some very near unconcious) to move there from elsewhere in the country seem to have this strange need to defend your decisions...very strongly, at that.

Just wondering, why must you all feel the need to defend Las Vegas as a liveable city in such a strong manner? If you're happy...and you know it... clap your hands...and be content in self-appreciation that you've made the absolute best choice of where to live.

Personal opinion....I believe that it's because we get sooo tired of people whose only frame of reference is wandering the strip and losing all their money then trashing the whole town......we're no different from anyplace else.....hotter instead of colder....

Yes, but you can take solace in the fact that 6,000 are moving in each month and probably offset us naysayers!

BTW, I formed my opinion when I travelled around off The Strip and looked around as a possible place to move. That, and my brother's experiences as a resident there. When I was on The Strip...I was on vacation...EVERYTHING looked great!

Hell it is almost as dumb as a guy sitting in rural upstate NY who publishes a half dozen knocks on Vegas each day. Talk about weird hobbies...

I defend it because I have lived here for a long time and find it a very "liveable" city. I defend it because I've seen it grow to a large city from a small city and I'm glad I have seen that happen. I defend it so people can get another opinion from someone who likes living here compared to people from out of state bashing it every chance they get. Most of all though, I defend it because its my home.

Is it really that different, "US" defending it compared to you bashing it?

as do i.

and one more reason to defend it...a lot of the negatives that are put forth are based on opinion and 'i heard that LV is...', not necessarily fact (note i said a lot, not all...very few people here have said LV is without its problems). i generally have a problem w/ unsubstantiated claims/statements.

as a newbie to the town, i also see the need to speak out to help other newcomers...whether they are moving here by choice or by circumstance. if there were no 'defenders' here, the forum would be all negative comments about LV.

**oh yeah: been here almost a month...still diggin' LV! (esp now that the weather is awesome!)

I agree, Vegas is a great town for those who want to take advantage of its "pluses" and leave those "minuses" to the bashers. I am sure we can find "minuses" about every city and bash it, but i'm too busy loving life in Vegas for that!

We defend our city because it's a great place. And it's home
Sure there are some bad parts, but they are miniscule when you look at the bigger picture of Las Vegas.
Las Vegas is a city like any other. It has absolutely everything any other city across the USA has, but it just has casino's. Many other states also have them. I'm sure they have idiots that bash their towns too on forums like this. (look at all the states here at city data for proof)

Not everyone likes Vegas as much as some of us do, and if they don't, then why do they stick around? Why don't they just go back home? And then some people just like to complain every day, as their life is not complete unless they do it.

jfk, in your case, you never gave it much of a chance. But then again, you live in a state that I find interesting, and i want to go visit there someday. I've been all over the west coast, but not the east coast.
There is always something good about every state, and every city in that state. That is the way I think. Always have, always will.
