I've sold cars, advertising, drugs, appliances, bounced in nightclubs and driven a cab among many other things....without a doubt the sleaziest, shadiest most crooked profession was car sales!

2-3 months of it, then CDL class A time.
I'm a sales consultant. I meet and greet, get some info on their needs, then fill out the short credit report. After that they move to a closer. Should be tolerable. I am a huge car car, and the chance to drive many new cars is exciting. Plus I get to be outside in Vegas, the whole reason I moved here.

Just a note about Uber. I did the research, and to become a driver here, one has to provide something like 13 certificates--all the same ones necessary to open a limo company. You would be far better off just opening your own limo company.

Congrats on your new job, Atheist. I hope you do well. I spent 16 years in the business until I left to focus on my own company. You don't have to be shady or sleazy. Times have changed dramatically, and selling cars is no different than selling any other commodity. Good luck!

Your experiences there could be an interesting thread all by itself.

i definitely think the car business has changed to better than shady.... One of my sales associates needed a vehicle and we had a great experience at Autonation Toyota. Went in... absolutely no pressure.. Was dealing with internet manager and told him I owned a dealership in Ohio for 18years.. Found the vehicle, was told the price $9995 plus stamps then i told him that i was going to do the bargaining for the associate. No 4 square sheet required. Offered $5900 plus stamps as first offer (yes of course a low ball).. ended up at $6950 plus the stamps..total $7900 including tax since there was no trade...kbb was 9425. for the vehicle...

We just picked up a vehicle last week from Autonation Mini. Just a little used SUV. I normally just call the GSM or GM, but this time I went through the Internet department. I didn't drop the "I was a GSM for 12 years" card until after the deal was done and I was in the box. Pretty painless transaction. I played the game for so many years, that it was nice to just have an easy transaction. Everything was done through email, I went in, signed the contract, and took delivery the next day. A total of about 3 hours from start to finish including emails.

We stopped 4-squaring in the late 1990s. The process has been streamlined through the years, and now it's as easy as buying an appliance from Sears.
