Red Rock Canyon. Go see the wild horses in the Cold Creek area. Valley of Fire.

All of the above is less than one hour away. There is also fantastic hiking in your back yard -- Frenchman's mountain has fossils, trails, and even a small rock arch.

I just got a 6 month membership to fillaseat. We're going to pick a show at random to see tonight. We also subscribe to groupon and livingsocial, and use those to find new restaurants to try.

Some of my coworkers have been bragging about their free six month membership to Fillaseat also. Some kind of Veterans Day deal.

In summer, and fall before it snows, there are great hikes at Mt. Charleston and Red Rock Canyon. In cooler weather, there are hikes at Lake Mead National Rec Area. There are hundreds of good hiking spots all over the place around here without driving too far. Southern Utah is another great place to go and it's not too far. Zion National Park not far from St. George is one of the best places to hike in the world.

Speaking of St. George, it's a great place to visit. Many Las Vegans do day trips or weekend getaways to St. George fairly often. St George Utah| Utah.com

A little further out (but what do we care, we live in the un-crowded desert where driving is never a problem) you can go to places like Death Valley as an all day trip.

Here's an unusual place to visit 77 miles west in California. You go toward Pahrump, but turn off at the road to Tecopa, Ca. China Ranch Date Farm

On our last trip, seven of us went there, bought some dates, had a date milkshake, walked around a little bit, then circled around, passing by the turn-off to Death Valley, and over to the Pahrump Winery for early dinner. Pahrump Winery

BTW: Do you fish, hunt, hike, ski, bike, camp out?
It's a very short cruise meant for visitors, I have taken my German friends many moons ago, but for locals I would think hiking around Lake Mead would be even more fun. Better to hike around Spring when all the wildflowers are blooming and you will likely spot Bighorns when hiking.

Yes, it was an offer on Veteran's Day. I am pretty sure we will renew, as they seem to have better shows than our friend gets from houseseats.com. We went and saw Gordie Brown yesterday at the Golden Nugget. Ended up leaving about 45 mins in, as we didn't find him particularly funny nor talented. We're going to check out some of the comedy show offers this week.

Totally agree. Gordie Brown is the worst show in Vegas I've ever seen and I've seen almost all of them.
