I drive more miles per year then your cops do. I see it all. I see things I never seen before in any other parts of the country. Go take a look out there. There are more tire marks on the center cement divider then there are on the road. You can collect enough parts from wrecked cars along the road side to build another car. Locals laugh at this. Outsiders drop their jaw. Cops hide from it. Local Chamber of Commerce hides the real statisitcs for fear of chasing tourists away.

The only thing I find strange is most of these fatals are not due to drunk drivers as one might guess. Hmmmmm.
Cite a source. The use of incorrect statistics by the unknowing is a widely used technique here. I will give you a hint...Nevada is not the highest fatality state in the nation. Las Vegas is not the top city and is actually getting better.

"the local news said that if not one more person died on Nevada's highways for the rest of the year, no other state would catch up to us." Is not a source. It is merely your speculation on a report that never occurred.

The things you see appear to be in your mind. That is likely why others don't see them.

Of course Las Vegas needs improvement...and probably at a much higher rate than is presently planned. But that does not make your nonsense true.

This is the second time that I know of that you mentioned this. Please stop until you can show some facts.

We aren't 'screwed' living in the north, especially those of us that know how to get across town in a half hour, versus the hour or so it takes everyone else.
The place that has the most traffic is Henderson. And before anyone pooh-poohs that, I've been over there on weekdays and weekends. And in comparison to where I live in the new NLV, it's much easier over here.
PINKIE, PINKIE, PINKIE......Don't tell these people about the surface streets......keep that "OUR" secret

"southern part" of LV is a wide area. Can you be more specific with some cross streets?

With no traffic I can do I-15 from near El Dorado down near the Palms Casino in only 20 min.
Not bad if you travel the right times

I can do from Las Vegas Blvd and Silverado Ranch to Civic Center and Cheyenne via I-15 in 15 minutes between the hours of 9-11 AM, but on the other hand the way back between 3-5 PM, it can take me 20 min to an hour...first of all it depends if you actually have to take 215 to/from 15, that can add another 20-45 minutes...it would be better if we had cross streets...

Thank you

Surely depends on when you are commuting. If durning the regular rush hours, you are looking at a 40-50 minute commute unless there is an accident. However, some days you can make that drive in 15-20 minutes. It all depends on the time of day and if there are any accidents. Even a simple car stuck on the berm with a flat will cause a rubbernecker backup, so its pretty typical to see some delays during rush hour. Indeed, the 15 is about to to be worked on significantly, but I think that is all north of where you will be working.

I think living in the southwest part of town is worth putting up with a lousey commute.

Sometimes taking Dean Martin Drive/Industrial is a quick drive north from the south. It dead ends before you hit downtown, but still might be worth looking into. It usually takes you from Blue Diamond to Western / Sahara (?) pretty quickly, with the only major back up being Tropicana.

Good luck to you.

But only we know the truth. We see it every day with our own eyes.

I need to butt in here... but I tend to agree with this. In the last 5 years of driving, walking, and riding my bike around Las Vegas I have seen more accidents in that short time, than I have in all other years combined in Cleveland. Here are the highlights....

I saw a woman get hit by a car on Tropicana at Topaz. The car was traveling around 40mph. Hit her so hard blood was coming out of her ears. It was a sound I will never forget. The most memorable one was a motorcycle accident on Industrial just behind Fashion Show Mall. I was on foot that day. The motorcycle was in a million pieces, handle bars on one side of the road, helmet on the other, and a human leg laying in the middle of the street. Still makes me sick to think about. Lets see.. what else... I saw a car up and upside down on a wall on Tropicana across from Spanish Trails. I had an SUV blow a tire in front of me on the 15 and cartwheel into the median. I witnessed a crash at Torrey Pines and Flamingo where both injured parties were pissed off the cops had shown up. Speaking of Flamingo, I witnessed an accident at Flamingo and Eastern where a VW rabbit or Dodge Omni was smashed against a truck like an accordian. I personally was rear ended hard at Karen and Joe W Brown. My car was a total loss.

Those are among the most memorable traffic moments in Vegas for me over the last five years. The does not include the fender benders and small crashes I see on a dailey basis. I agree that I have seen an above average amount of horrific accidents, but I can promise I would not have seen them if I was some place else!

That is two fatals and a couple of probables. That is of the same order I suggested. I had one falal and three probables in ten years.

I have seen two known fatalities and what turned out to be three more on one day on the San Diego Fwy.

I have seen 20 or 25 cars crashed or wheels up on the NY Fwy on a single pass.

I saw the remains of something like 25 wrecked cars on the Cajon Pass.

I saw the remains of 7 people I know strawn along a RR track in KY.

I had the side ripped off a car on the San Diego Fwy by a guy in a brand new Toyota looking for the Goodyear blimp. We both lived because I saw him coming. It was interesting. No doors on the left side of the car and I could not get my foot off the accelerator with the engine running red line. Finally had to turn the key off.

I drive about 20,000 miles a year in Vegas. I work in my car effectively. It is not a particularly dangerous city. Even the Admiral agrees it is OK but she wants to ban young men in pickup trucks.
