If you could choose between the two, price not an issue (due to similar rental apt communities equal in price), which would you choose and why?

Although both are nice places to live, I'd pick Summerlin over Henderson. More safeguards to protect your investment. It is over 20-25 years old and hardly shows any signs of aging. Henderson (Green Valley) in the neighborhoods of the same age show more. Summerlin is also cooler in summer as it is higher elevation. Seems like cleaner air too as the bad air settles more in the lower areas, as does heat and cold (don't ask me to explain). Traffic and people congestion seems worse to me in Henderson but that may just be me. I notice Summerlin generally has a slightly better class of people over all, but that is hard to say. There are good and bad everywhere. But pride of ownership seems better in Summerlin and that may be because the Summerlin HOA makes you keep your property up. Henderson, like North Las Vegas, has had image problems in the past that tend to linger with us old timers. Majority that live here now weren't here in those days, and are only slightly aware of it, but it is there.

I spaced it where you said you are looking for rentals, but everything else applies anyway.

If you are working east side go to Henderson. West side go to Summerlin.

If on the strip it is still generally true that one side is favored by 5 minutes or so.

If not toss a coin.

I like both area's, but I'd probably pick Summerlin because I am partial to the extreme west side of town. I just like it more.
Henderson does have much more traffic, anytime I am over that way, weekdays, weekends, there is always so much traffic. Takes forever to get a few miles.
But you do get great views of The Strip. So it's a trade off I guess.
Summerlin also gives you great views of The Strip.

There is more to life here than just Summerlin and Henderson.
Peccole Ranch, The Lakes, Desert Shores, Aliante, Centennial Hills, Rhodes Ranch, Southern Highlands, MacDonald Ranch, Seven Hills, Lake Las Vegas, Scotch 80's, Downtown, Central Vegas, Spanish Trails,Park Highlands under construction, Coyote Springs under construction down the road a bit, plus many other nice area's I haven't mentioned.
And don't forget the older area's on the east side, Sunrise manor you can get some great deals on home's and anywhere on the east side. It's not all crime-ridden like everyone believes. I have met more friendly people on the east side of town than anywhere else so far. I wonder why that is...

Thanks everyone, for your input. I want to be close to the airport due to a lot of travel for work, but also have a relatively decent quality of life (and occasional access to the strip), so Henderson seemed like the logical choice.

First of all, If you talk to Summerlin people the love Summerlin if you talk to Green Valley Ranch/Anthem people they love their area just as much. Summerlin is cooler by 1 or 2 degrees then parts of "Henderson" and even then were talking 115 versus 113 -114.

We chose Green Valley Ranch(Henderson) over Summerlin 13 years ago because it was all to easy to see the major traffic problems Summerlin people were going to have with the spaghetti bowl(I-15/95) interchange. The traffic up there is a nightmare now for any that have to leave Summerlin area for work(based on what hundreds of people at work say and the few times I get over there), but keep in mind ALL of Vegas is starting to turn into SoCAL, as far as traffic. Other then that both places have the same quality people, shopping, crime, smog, temperatures.
