I have Cox cable (full package 2 HDTVs, 1 regular and 1 HDTV DVR) & internet (10mg), Vonage (with fax) for the land line, and Sprint Simply Everything for my cell phone. Except for there not being a dedicate Russian channel on Cox, not being able to auto receive faxes. Other than those two things, I'm pretty happy.

FWIW, I have Dish HD (with locals) with one HD-DVR Box and a dual-tuner DVR for my other two TVs. It comes out to about $100/month with no movie channels (but everything else). I use Embarq for a basic phone line and DSL service. It isn't the fastest but it is fine for anything more than occasional P2P usage. It is $45 a month.

I would consider Direct TV, but I prefer to go to a local bar and drink/eat and watch the games there. I can pretty much order an App and drink 8-10 beers for under $20/week, which is what the NFL package costs on Direct TV anyway.

I dont know about you guys, but I have an outdoor HD antenna, and my local HD stations look very good. I have read that it is uncompressed, so the picture will look a little better than from the DTV or DISH at MPEG4

an outdoor hd antenna is cool if you're only interested in local hd channels.

but if you want your cable/satellite channels in hd, you've gotta pick somebody. espn hd... cnn hd... hgtv hd... food network hd... hbo hd... hd theater channel... hd network channel... hd movies channel... discovery. the list goes on and on.

of course if you're not interested in watching any of that (which i submit, some people are not), an outdoor hd antenna is perfectly fine.

I have Dish Network, but my point was HD from the Air looks better than compressed MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 (from service providers).

oh, ok. you use the outdoor for the locals, and dish network for everything else. gotcha.

yea, some people refer to mpeg2 and mpeg4 as "hd lite", as the signal is compressed (less so for mpeg4, but still compressed).

Compression looses some quality, but most do not even notice. I actually notice it because I have a large TV, so when watching sports, you can tell a big difference. I think if they left the signals uncompressed, it would take too much bandwidth and slow everything down. I wonder what the bandwidth per channel on Sat TV vs. Cable?

One advantage to having mp4 encoded videos is that you can watch them on a Sony PSP. I haven't done this with mine yet, but I've got the software to convert avi files to mp4. This would make things easier than lugging a laptop around.

There are MP4 players out there like the Archos, and some other no name brands for cheap.

Talking Las Vegas Bundles

I recently moved here to Las Vegas for the reason of selling Phone, Internet, and TV Bundles. With that in mind, I may be a little biased. But, I do my job because it truly saves people money and I think the product is extremely cool! Take a look at my website www.bundlemyclear and it can break down some of the pricing. The site just launched so, please bear with me. You can use the CONTACT link if you have any questions. Hope this helps
