Chase bank is giving you $300 just for opening a checking account with them and having a direct deposit to it from either your employer or government program. You have to keep the account open for 6 months. You can even get $600, but then you need to open a savings account too with a minimum daily balance of $15,000. For obvious reasons, I cannot do that, but if you can, great! I am going to do the checking account since I already get direct deposits.

I've done this at least 4 times. I just set up reminders as to when you are allowed to close it and keep the bonus. There is a 3 month wait before you can qualify to do it again. For those that don't want to mess with their direct deposit, Chase treats any old ACH transfer as a DD.

Be aware that Chase will issue a 1099INT as this will be treated as income so be prepared to pay taxes on it.

What confuses the issue is that credit card cash rewards are not taxable. The IRS considers these a discount and not income. I've made far more money on credit card rewards then I have on bank account sign up bonus'.

On the subject of free money from financial institutions, TD Ameritrade will give you $3,000 if you transfer over $1 Million.

Time to crack open that piggy bank.

But they pay zero interest on inactive money in brokerage accounts. Started free trades like everyone else though.

I agree with you. One of my biggest problems with TD. Otherwise I like them.

You have to actively move the extra money into CD's, T-bills, etc.... Sort of a pain to manage it.

The other day I saw a pic of NLVgal and Agualung taken not too many years ago. It feels sad both are no longer with us.
