I've got a bad credit rating, and no house to use as collateral. I'd love to go to school, but there isn't much call for a Russian interpreter here in Vegas. I've got rent, bills, and dogs to feed. I could live off my blubber for years.

I tried to contact MomMom a while back, and she did not respond. She has not posted for months either. I do not know who Daddy's is, but I do know Red Rock was permanently banned.

You might want to try to be a personal care attendant for elderly and/or disabled people. I have done that before, and it is very rewarding. The pay is not great at around $10 an hour, but it is better than nothing. The demand is still good for those jobs. I think you did take care of your mother, when she was sick, correct? If so, you already have the experience needed.

Aqua, just curious, do you as a cab driver have to go out and book your own fares?

I'd sure like to read that both of you are following your passions to be something you've always wanted to be. No, there isn't too much demand for a Russian interpreter. LOL. Kind of falls into the catagory of shepherding! Life is just too damned tough, and getting more so, to have to live an existance of struggling just to get through one day after another and you both seem to be bright, articulate people.

A college education, with hefty student loans to pay back, is no guarantee you're going to escape the struggle to survive today.

My Mexican roommate with 6 years of education has whizzed through this recession with two smiles on his face. Works 7 days a week and enjoys his work each and every day.

My mother with 8 years of education, my father with 6 years of education always sailed through any recessions.

Eat my heart out!

Perhaps you could contact the court system. They may have occasional need for a Russian interpreter. You could end up at the go-to-guy for Russian interpretation in all of Las Vegas. Couldn't hurt?

No, I could never do that again, it was only for my mother.

Pommy: I picked up and dropped off at the various hotels and the airport, as well as take radio calls.

Taz: I'm only semi-fluent in Russian. I need to take a few more years before I'm translator level.

I just called Yellow Cab. I wasn't hired, but I can check back in three months. There are some other cab companies in town that I can check with, but they were the next best.
