Hi again, it's me. Going on 3 months in LV since my move from Albuquerque, New Mexico and boy has it been a roller coaster of a ride since I got here...let me tell you it has been down right scary and very depressing at times!
Here are my threads that I first started in the beginning and after my relocation to LV to get a glimpse of what I've been through.

Well, after being on the verge of homelessness and a new car payment I haven't even started making, it looked like it was going to be the end for me with no chance of survival. Down to a few hundred bucks and no job in site I resorted to responding to whatever Craigslist employment add I came across and applying to every single casino/hotel site on the net.

And still nothing, until...

A promotions manager for The Lightgroup (manages hottest nightclubs on the strip) called me one day and asked me if I was interested in doing promotions for Jet Nightclub inside the Mirage. He gave me the details and I said to myself "oh great, I'm going to be in line with one of those "card flappers" on the side walks passing out junk promo cards". But hey...I'm broke and it's better than nothing right? I did that for 2 days and I absolutely HATED it. It's for $7.50 an hr plus a bonus for every person that ends up using your pass ($5 for each guy and $3 for each girl). After the second day I had exactly 2 guys and 4 girls that had used my admission cards. I didn't like that fact I had to be out on the streets for minimum wage walking up to complete strangers and try to convince them to go to a night club while they are out shopping and trying to have a good time. Plus, once you pass out cards all day you're obligated to be at the club by 10pm that night wearing a suit and your job is to walk the parties that used the passes you gave them inside the club. So of course I was just standing around doing nothing. Once I got off, I went inside Jet, got totally wasted parting with who know who (I don't know anybody in LV LOL) and the next thing I know I'm waking up in my car at 9am the next morning in the Mirage parking garage. I don't ever remember walking out of the club or entering my car.

Well, as I was driving home with a major headache or still drunk...Lo and behold I get a call from a lady about my resume that I had turned in about a Customer Service Rep Position on Craigslist. Of course I couldn't remember...not because I was half drunk but because I must of spammed my resume about 50 a day on Craigslist adds. I ended up getting an interview 2 hours later and I showed up thinking in the back of my head I shouldn't be here and embarrass myself because of the condition I was in.

Well it turns out the interview went surprising well and I was hired the next day as a Bilingual Customer Service Rep for a Debt Settlement Firm (NOT collections agency). I basically negotiate with creditors on behalf of our clients to close their delinquent accounts at a reduced rate. I answer any questions our clients might have about the program they enrolled and best of all....absolutely NO cold calling. I deal exclusively with (both Spanish/English) clients and their creditors. It's a full 40hrs a week with bankers hours and a very competitive wage.

You guys don't understand...I'm so relieved, soo happy right now for landing this job. I was literally moments away from calling my family, putting away my pride and ask them for money just so I can have enough gas money for the drive back to Texas. I'm still behind on my bills but it appears the worse is over. I have a steady income now and I'm still waiting for my financial aid papers to get through. It looks like things will start looking up...thank god!

For people thinking of moving to Las Vegas, please take the advice that some posters will provide. I did to a certain extent but primarily it was my determination, no surrender attitude and do whatever it takes-that helped me get through the first 3 months. Not the best way of course but like some posters have stated before in other threads.

PLAN! PLAN! PLAN!

Thanks to all who responded with their input on my previous threads, it looks like I might enjoy Las Vegas afterall!

Congratulations on your new job, D.A. Although I've never been in your position, I can just imagine the tremendous stress you were under while living day-to-day and not knowing whether you were going to make it. I'm glad your perseverence paid off.

You just about destroyed your life and possibly someone else's so I hope you learned from it. Just because your life is going bad doesn't give you the right to put other innocent people in jeopardy.

Good for you for sticking with it, luck was on your side it could have turned out much worse when you driving home still drunk in a car that you haven't been making payments on. Your getting a second chance cherish it and don't forget how low you were so you never go back there again.

Cut him some slack, the big news story in the last day was the drunk 19 year old girl who plowed into the back of a car with a couple seniors in it, killing them both. It wasn't even noon yet and she was driving drunk. People are going to have even less tolerance for people who drive impaired after a story like that makes the headlines.
