I have friends and family who live in Coopersburg, it's a very nice area, average home cost in the 200k-500k range. My cousin who is in his early 40's loves it there.

mainegirl, your friends have good taste! Coopersburg is in the Southern Lehigh School district - my town! You won't find much under $300,000. New construction is closer to $400,000.

Yes, from what I've heard, it's a beautiful area, very safe to raise a family and close to so many places. If I didn't want to move to Maine so badly I would consider it myself.

really???? wow thanks you made my day...I have been searching all over the new york region to figure out the best place to live for our family. My husband will be working in Manhattan, but I cannot afford to live there. We are Jewish and have 3 kids ages 3 6 and 11 and I want a great community where its safe and good schools and plenty to do. I love nature, going camping, skiing, ice skating, trails, outdoor stuff etc. We have two dogs and love taking them out too. I also need my shopping. So having a big walmart, target and nice malls is ultra important for my happiness....

i do not do well in small towns....but I also dont do well in big cities...I want something in between....finding a big house for us for 1500 a month is not possible in NYC so when I saw what you get for your money in this area...my jaw dropped....so Iam so happy its a great place...

thankyou

Iam gonna start looking for a place to rent asap

hey are there any shady areas to stay away from?

The city of Bethlehem is wonderful but it's schools aren't rated well. Allentown is trying to shed it's image of being dangerous but not too many families moving there - schools are also poorly rated. This site is good for comparing schools: www.schoolmatters.com Renting homes is usually more problematic outside of the cities, but if you stay in Bethlehem it should be doable.

If your priorities are schools and quality of life, living anywhere in the Parkland S.D. will be your best choice.
Although other area school districts are good, none of them rank as high as Parkland does (with the exception of private schools) in regards to test scores. As a matter of fact I think Parkland was in the top 25 in the state last I checked. Academics AND athletics are first class at Parkland, the schools are clean and nice, the H.S. is remarkable. It comes at a cost though, taxes are not cheap.

But the poster said she does not do well in small towns. Presents a dilemma because none of the areas in the Lehigh Valley that have good schools are in the cities. An option would be to live in Bethlehem and have the kids go to private school. Moravian Academy, right in Bethlehem, is very well regarded.

well my kids will be attending a private Jewish school anyway...so really doesnt matter what the schools are like....other then there has to be an orthodox jewish day school in that area.

but thanks for the opinions...much appreciated

I have been told over and over that the commute from Bethlehem to Manhattan is a nightmare and that there are no trains...only a bus...and Iam not sure if that is dependable especially in bad traffic and winter weather....what are your thoughts on this?

How does one get info on cities that are linked to the trains that go into NYC?
