I can agree with some of what you post. Happiness is a state of mind
Why do you constantly complain about civil servants salaries and taxes
Civil servants make more on the Island then anywhere else is because "you take a look at if you could get jobs where they have new houses for 250K, what they would pay, and how much you end up with after the fact"
Sometimes, instead of complaining all the time....one could answer their own questions
There is this thing called reason and nuance that you and your LE buddies might want to try.
You see, while I am the beneficiary of a tax payer funded salary, I work in private industry and I know people who are struggling here on LI who don't have "gravy train" jobs. I don't have a problem with reasonable people making reasonable complaints about overcompensated public workers. I have a problem with nuts who think that taxes could ever be what they are in Florida and say idiotic things like "schools stink on Long Island" to try to further their agenda.
I also have a problem with fanatacal tough guys who only deal in extreme black and whites of discussion, where if you disagree with them you should be "demonized" and accused of all sorts of BS, who repeatedly tell you that your opinion is an opinion, when anyone who isn't 5 years old already knows that.
I "complain" about LI cops compensation on this board because there is good reason to complain. As for where it always descends to, if you tell them they are overpaid, there is no reason to have a discussion because you are their enemy. It's absurd.
My question is what keeps a couple in their 20s and 30s interested in Long Island? There's nothing really here, and certainly nothing free.. Unless you want to go to the park and watch a doo-wop band perform for the geriatrics?
If Long Island has "nothing," what do you expect to find elsewhere? Exactly what types of amenities are you looking for? And for free?
Houses are more expensive here because a tornado won't come along and wipe it out..plus we are on an island..how luxurious is that!. I'm staying put even though i might have to live in coram and drive an hour to work. Our parents have to help us raise our future kids. even out of state day care would be unaffordable.
Smart thinking, instead of a tornado, you could have a big azz hurricane instead to swamp and drown you. Pick your poison.
Haha, too funny. Like everything is about money. Sometimes quality of life as well as value play roles too.
Yes it is funny.....
So, Are we saying that the QOL on Long Island is among the very best in the country for anyone who lives on Long island ?
Now, don't tell "yes, if they can afford it" because you are then bringing in the money part.... so yes its kinda funny !!
The poor will struggle everywhere, we do not need a PHD to figure that out. So can the "poor" on Long Island can be "better than poor" (also translated as in better QOL) somewhere else ? Whoa, whoa... what a concept.... Also, I don't buy the theory that if you move out and get a industry standard pay cut you will end up with the same house/income debt ratio or whatever as here.... I call that absolute BS.... it maybe true for one specific case or profession maybe, but making sweeping generalizations is borderline insanity.

I don't even know where to begin with this hot mess
If you believe that the Police officer's are overpaid ....then you have to believe your wife is overpaid
Everything is inflated on L.I. form the salaries to taxes to the homes, etc
I have absolutely no problem with you or anyone agreeing with me or not.
School on L.I. are very good but they do come at a premium. I say the schools are just as good if not better by me for 1/10 the cost but again that's my opinion. Not an AGENDA. You may agree or you may not...that's your right.
I find that people that complain all the time are not happy....My father use to say " Don't complain...live your life."
And P.S. don't lump me up with anyone including L/E.....I'm unique with my own views

I do think in general LI teachers are overpaid...not nearly to the same extent NCPD and SCPD are, but their salaries, especially at top level, are too high. And I've probably said this a few DOZEN friggin times on this board.
But when you are dealing with angry unhappy people with a lot of hate in their heart, they tend to ignore the things that don't suit their agenda. If I was pulling a NCPD retirement pension like some people we know, I sure as heck wouldn't be spending my time here arguing with with people who say I'm overpaid. Says a lot about a person.
I happen to be at work and when I want to give my eyes a break from spreadsheets and bank statements, I come here to chat it up. If that qualifies as being unhappy, well, whatever suits your agenda.
You got it.... that and everything in between. (ROL ??)
