Kay 4, I live 5 minutes from there. It's nothing like what's stated above. People here act with class, respect and dignity.( No noise, cell phones, chatting, clanging) Since you been there you know all this already. It could be a real nice night out as long as your not the one driving Anyway, next time your down in my neck of the woods skip Stony Point Fashion Park and head out to Short Pump. There's some clubs, bars, comedy club and the best shopping in the Country. Just don't mention you know Big Mike and you'll be just fine
Every theaters different. We have a few personal favorites in Nassau where the distractions are few, best screens/sound system, and with the most comfortable seats... Probably nothing like super classy Virginia however. Everyone in your state is just oozing with class -- almost as much as Rocky Point.
Of course, you go to a theater in Hempstead and you'll see everything nyliguy mentioned is the norm.

Yeah, but can you be served a L.I. Ice Tea there like I can After 6 or 7 of them I don't care what theater I'm in

Haha actually the concept I am asking about is all over the south, under different names.

No alcohol that I'm aware of. It's illegal in NY? Both of these sound like ideas I would try at least once...kinda like Sonic. But I wouldn't dare if it were a movie like the Dark Knight Sequel or Matrix or LOTR caliber type movies. But then again, hollywood is putting out mostly garbage nowadays. I wouldn't mind getting buzzed during some flicks.

We saw the True Grit remake last year and it was extremely enjoyable.
I was sad reading this thread. I am moving to LI in two weeks, and coming from a place abundant with dine-in theaters. Nobody is disrespectful, and the servers are trained to be nearly invisible. You hit a button on your chair if you need anything, and you can continue to get food and drinks throughout the movie. I have never had a problem and have never heard of anyone who was too distracted by someone eating or drinking in the theater (I actually find popcorn much louder than a hamburger and fries).
Classic LI cultural arrogance. "Duh, we don't have it so it must be a bad idea."
Like no one eats like pigs in theaters now. And no one ever eats while watching a movie at home.
It's probably the "no alcohol at movies" political flap that plays into it. Hard to get permit/license and then having to compete with the megascreen theaters. Besides, Mom and Pop's (theaters and other businesses) generally don't do too well here and there aren't any large chain indie/arthouse theaters anymore anyway, let alone dinner ones.
