Ct/LI viewing area back in the 1950's and 60's.
There are probably not too many of us who can remember that we used to have to watch the New Haven stations in Setauket & Port Jeff to get CBS or ABC. Channels three and eight. Remember? Even Providence came in better than New York for some reason.

Anybody remember the morning Farm Reports being the first thing that came on in the morning? A lot of the newer Islander's don't realize just how rural we were back in the day.
Hi Fun City, I am Ricky, know then to the public as Guy, the youngest child of Herb Sheldon. I was always called by my middle name, never Guy. To this day, thats what my brother and sisters call me. (and still my old friends as well). I loved that old model T car. It had a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine in it, but it really moved. I can't believe how much information is on this forum about my dad. It's amazing. Sadly I had very little time to spend with my dad, since I was so young, and by todays standards he died young. At this point I have out lived him by years. Fortunately, progress has been made in the medical world, which is great since my brother and I inherited the heart problem, even though we are avid runners and bikers, and have tried to help ourselves since we were young knowing this might happen. I have held on to the memories I have of my dad, and my wife says they are so vivid because I didn't have that much time with him. You know he was as funny at home as he was on TV. I'll never forget when we watched him on TV one day, and he was on the couch next to me. How did he do that???? Amazing! Thanks for all the memories and kind words about dad. I really do appreciate it!! Guy (Rick)

Mr.Herb Sheldon.
I remembered him from the last NYC based kids tv shows that
he hosted on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC from September,1959 to May,
1962.."The Looney Tunes Show"(Which was later retitled:"The Herb
Sheldon Show")and "The Mischief Makers".
On the latter series..Mr.Sheldon would entertain and inform his
viewers..inbetween the reruns of the silent"Our Gang"/"Little Rascals"
film comedies.
Sadly,those silent"Our Gang"/"Little Rascals"films were poorily edited
and were not popular with the kids..who prefered to watch the sound era
"Our Gang"Films.
"The Mischief Makers"went off the air on WOR TV Ch.9 in NYC
in June,1961.
The only memorable thing about that show..was Mr.Sheldon
driving onto the set of the show in a small model t car.
He drove onto the set in that little, anitque car..still sporting
his straw skimmer, striped or checked blazer, white shirt and bow tie
or neck tie.
Making Mr.Sheldon look like a carnival or circus barker.
He also Co-hosted The UCP Telethons on Ch.9 with Mrs.Jane
Pickens Langley(Later on she remarried Mr.Hoving and she became
known as Mrs.Jane Pickens Hoving),Mr.Dennis James and Mr.& Mrs.
Steve And Edie Gorme' Lawrence.
The UCP Telethons were Mr.Sheldon's last tv appearances..sadly..
we lost him in the summer of 1964 to a heart attack.
You say that you are one of his children..but?
You didn't tell us if you are one of his sons:Guy Or Randy or
one of his daughters..Lynda or Amy?
If it is possible?
Could you please tell us all here at The "Blast From The Past"website..
if you are One Of Mr.Herb Sheldon's daughters or..one of his sons?
Thanks For your reply and Thanks For Remembering your father
Actually, if I remember correctly, there was a show that came on at 5:30am called "The Modern Farmer". I watched it because it was the only broadcast on that early. I learned how to take soil samples, which as it turned out, didn't help me at all in life. Interesting tho.

I also remember your father hosting WOR TV Ch.9 NYC's
version of"The Looney Tunes Show"/"The Herb Sheldon Show".
The show would open with a slide of a cottage in the forrest
and there would be music playing on the air..
The scene would fade into the interior of this enchanted cottage
and your father would be sporting his straw skimmer, checkered or
striped blazer, bow or neck tie and white shirt and playing a snare
drum to the music.
He did this with the wild and fun abandeon of a child at
play.
Then..he'd talk one on one with the kid at home about his or
her's day went and how things were going at home..he'd also
pull some items out of a paper bag and mention who the show's
sponsor's were.
Then..he'd introduce the cartoon.
He was a fun loving, knowledgeable and caring person..
and..I still miss him to this day.
