I am against the casino and I do not live near it. What troubles me the most is the organization they are handing the reins over to ... OTB!

Back in the days before OTB, bookies with an eighth grade education managed to make very good money for themselves.

Then OTB was created to muscle in on that ... and what happened? They are always LOSING money! Losing the majority of their money to horse racing gamblers? Unbelievable! That shows the people in charge of OTB are the ultimate losers and morons. Instead of giving executive jobs away to connected people who know nothing, they should have hired outsiders with expertise, perhaps people who ran a sports book in Vegas ... or some bookies with eighth grade educations. But no, it always has to be connected people with no experience!

I agree this small (compared to Resort World at Aqueduct) slot machine shop is nothing but a way to keep OTB going and keep some people in their patronage jobs who don't deserve them.

I will say I don't think this thing will be very popular, so for the residents of the area it may not turn out to be too horrible. With Costco, the Olive Garden, etc., etc., it's already impossible to get a parking space on the weekends!

Let me take a guess. Here they are, ranked in order of likelihood:

1. Joe Mondello
2. Al D'Amato
3. Tom Gulotta

Those OTB officials in the meeting were so useless. All they kept saying was all their data was based on their significant studies but they can never give us better references. Whoever asked them where the studies were, they would just say "I don't have it right off my head, I can give you more detail if you come talk to me after this meeting". DUH, you two get paid high salary and asked to come to the meeting, you are not prepared residents would ask you reference for all your studies?

And I_Love_LI_but is right, they have been losing money, so, the casino act is just to keep them afloat till the big guys retire will gigantic pensions.

While I didn't go to the Legislature meeting I did watch it online. The conduct of Norma Gonsalves clearly shows the agenda the Nassau GOP have in shoving this casino down our throats. They want to destroy Westbury & Carle Place.
It is unbelievable how we are being singled out by the County for this. I am providing a link to the audio of the meeting that I recorded from the Nassau Legislature live stream. They listen to NO ONE. Reminded me of the meeting for the NICE Bus contract. This County is a Dictatorship!

I would have asked them straight out, "Why has OTB been chosen to run this when they've lost money for years?"

I would have also asked, "Why don't you hire executives with casino gambling experience to run this enterprise instead of keeping the same people who already failed miserably with horse racing?"

I remembered people asked similar questions saying how can we trust you can operate a casino and we as nassau county don't have to bail you out in couple years. Of course the guy Rich something said he got tons of industrial experience. And those experience also claims there is no increase of DUI, crimes, or whatsoever. Residents around it only benefit from it since there are more local jobs.

And in return Nassau county only get back like 20 million a year. It's not like a lot. It's all political.

These questions were asked at Carle Place High School, they OTB reps never answered or answered different questions. When we finally backed into a corner and the crowd started screaming "GET RID OF OTB", Mr. Arthur T. Walsh, General Counsel to OTB got red faced and yelled back "What about our jobs? Over 200 jobs at OTB!"

I'm wrapping up 5-year analysis of Nassau OTB's financials, during the five year period 2008-2013, OTB's net profits total -$13,201,781. I will post the excel file as soon as I am able to, it keeps apppearing as a black image.

I hope someone screamed back, "If I did my job as terrible as you people and lost money year after year for my employer, I would have gotten fired a long time ago! Why is your incompetence exempt from consequences?"
