Even with the problems we have, I was at last night's meeting in Carle Place against the casino and am just amazed at how Westbury & Carle Place have come together to fight this. Our Mayor and especially our Judge Mr.Liotti spoke so elequently. It is amazing that even with all this united opposition, that the Nassau OTB and Republican members of the Nassau legislature continue to ignore us. I'm especially looking at you, Laura Schaefer.
In a way I do take it personal, first Mangano & the Nassau GOP privatized the buses and making it harder for me to get around without a car, now they want to dump a casino which will push my community past a tipping point and turn it into the next Hempstead.
The same lies being put forth by the OTB about funding, safety, and transparency are the same ones that were put forth when Mangano & Co was shoving NICE Bus down our throats.
I have to say I will never vote for a Nassau Republican again, and this comes from someone who tends to vote Republican/Conservative.
Only the Democrats in the legislature have a good plan to stop this casino and that is the resolution to remove this OTB Board. But Mr.Cairo and the infamous Mangano/D'amato (and possibly Cuomo) connection stand in the way with Norma Gonsalves, the Presiding Officer, trying to silence the Voice of the People. I guess she's trying to make the late Peter Schmitt proud.
I do realize the problems Westbury has now are NOTHING compared to what could happen if this casino opens. We have to toss our differences aside and fight together for this common goal and I felt quite humbled by it all at last night's meeting.

donkey95, if you are in the meeting yesterday, you would know John is correct. The two guys from OTB were staring at each other when people questioned them about their decision, studies, etc etc. And all the government officials came out and speak for the community.

Basically does not matter. Even if it does not happen Westbury is still Westbury. This was not even in the picture a month ago.

Sometimes you have to put some stuff aside to fight something that will destroy all the good that is left in the community. I know I have come across like I was bashing Westbury but I just want this community to improve. Patchogue and Bay Shore have problems with illegals (and are even listed as Sanctuary Cities as well...then NYC is also listed) but their downtowns are looking alot better than Westbury's.
It is an uphill battle but someone has to give a damn and be upset at a certain population treating their community with no respect.
Westbury's location has great potential, and if we had cooperation from more levels of govt Post Ave could become just like Main St. in Patchogue, with mixed use development and transit friendly communities.
This casino goes against everything that has been tried to improve the area!

Is the Race Palace open 20 hours a day? Are there 1,000 VLT's? Nope.
And when it was suggested to place this casino there, Plainview opposed it and was stopped quickly. Gee, I wonder why? More rich people? Ed Mangano's hometown of Bethpage nearby?
There is still a very large population of people that care about their community in Westbury and Carle Place. The casino will drive them out and New Cassel will stretch all the way down Old Country to the Meadowbrook. Is that what we want?
I feel as if the rest of the county is viewing my area as a place to dump trash. Dump the casino here, dump offenders here, dump illegals here, etc...there are still good neighborhoods in Westbury mainly west of Ellison, along Butler, and north of the pkwy, and lets not forget about Carle Place. Do we want this to look like Prospect, Urban, or Union? Because thats what will happen with the casino.
Go ahead & look at Ozone Park where Resorts World is, crime is going up and pawn shops are popping up everywhere. If you have no problem with the casino, then lets have it in your neighborhood.
If it's not good for Plainview, or Nassau Colisseum, then why should it be any different than Westbury?

I am always amazed how people saying nimby. I am nimby for this casino idea and I DO NOT see anything wrong with it. Its not a glory place people shop and dine. Its going to service mostly low income people live paycheck by paycheck.

I paid my property tax and its not cheap tax. If they tell me we will open casino next to your house and you only need to pay half the tax since you are affected, then it might make a little more sense. But the fact is house value will go down and tax will go up. So now somebody please tell me if my nimby idea is bad.

Oh by the way, a lot of people complain about our government, social problem, but at the same time you are proud to be american. Would that fall into same theory?
