can anybody recommend outstanding bakeries?
I grew up on the greatest bakery of all time, Custom Bakers of Island Park, but sadly they closed shop in the early 90's and the kids have held on to the family recipes with no plans to sell out or reopen.... (their chocolate layer cake was to die for....cheesecake, lemon meringue pie, and neselrode pie were amazing as well).
Panchos in Island Park is good though I think it was better when it was in Oceanside it is still very good.
Dodici in Rockville Centre is excellent. Try the Prime Rib. It is excellent.
El Mariachi in Rockville Centre is good if you want what I call "hardcore" Mexican food. And it is very good. Has been there for over 30 years.
Peter Luger's Steak House in Great Neck is a Great Steak House. And I love Steak. Most will say the Brooklyn location is better and I may agree but this is still great.
Those are the solid ones I know of. I may think of more.

had their Romanian skirt steak and wasn't that impressed...I think their ribs were better.
Yeah you have a point. I have eaten there only a few times, and honestly only had their NY Strip and Rib Eye. They were good. I just figured that most of their food was just as good.
