The homes I've seen looked fine, seemed like your typical run of the mill boring 50s-70s houses.

You're right about the chain link fences. I'm not sure why so many houses have them, even crappy places like Hempstead and Roosevelt don't have that.

Check cashing places? I really don't think that matters

I have been there at night, I saw nothing unusual.

Yeah the issues with violence in the community are bad but aside from that it's not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be.

That a pretty big 'but'. And yes, it is that bad.

Regardless of what you say, this town is far from "any average town" on Long Island.

It's been dumpy for years but in the last 10 or so has moved from dumpy to dangerous with the Central American gangs.
