Wearing seat belts and installing airbags doesn't put 30 million people out of work, crash the world economy, force victims of domestic abuse to live with their abusers, disrupt food supplies, destroy small businesses, irreparably destroy entire industries, scare people from seeking medical attention for non-COVID preventable illnesses, prevent people from mourning their loved ones (unless the're a drugged-up loser that had a heart attack while being restrained by an overzealous cop, then you get three funerals), etc. If you aren't accounting for the damage this ongoing hysteria is doing due to social and economic disruption, your math sucks and is of no use to anyone.

^ that was not his point whatsoever. He keeps saying he doesn't know of anyone and because of that it's overblown.

And for you, all the states who decided to restart early, it hasn't been looking good for them as far as staying open and prospering. So whatever math you're doing is pointless. Apparently it's bigger than that. There is no amount of finger-pointing or scapegoating clearly needed to make yourselves feel better that will change how this global virus will & has steered the economy.

You may as well keep calling it the Chinese virus and the results will be no different.

In a way, I guess it makes sense (not saying it is fair at all) because if you made that executive order to excluded anything other than essential items, the public could argue that a Monopoly game was essential because the kids were out of control. And after a few weeks in the house with kids, you know that would happen. Additionally, who would enforce that rule. It would be just one more edict from King Cuomo with no teeth in it.
Even if Walmart and Target are selling essential items, the virus doesn’t care. You have the same chance of getting the virus in those stores or all of the banned ones. So, what the govt is really saying is that we will allow you to risk your life on food and shampoo but we will not tolerate risking your life for a shirt or bedsheets. Think about that. That is so arbitrary that it is actually funny.

No, the math is the same. We should be willing to put up with a flu-like disease with a death rate of around 1% mostly old and infirm without shutting down the world. Our ancestors put up with far worse within living memory.

However, the thinking is that people will only go out for "essentials". Now if we want to discuss the flaw in that thinking we can.

This is exactly it. Essentials. This is why the garden section of Lowes was closed initially. We don't need the home gardeners making silly unnecessary trips and potentially adding to the crowded hospitals at the time. You need a replacement rubber stopper for your constantly-running toilet? Understood. Art stuff? Let's keep Michaels open for you... because that's so worth it right? Who was the one who wanted DSW?

I have never known anyone in my life who has died from the flu, where they coughed and sneezed themselves to death. never.

still dont know one person who caught the corona virus

The reaction is overblown
I disagree that my reaction is over blown I hope for your sake you don't have someone you know die of the "Flu" or corona virus then you might think differently. You seem very nonchalant about what's going on. No wonder your broke and 30.

This is non-responsive to my point. Either you believe that it’s worth moving on from this and accepting that a very tiny percentage of people may die from it, or you don’t. Either way, people at risk should probably continue to quarantine, just as people that are immunocompromised did before all this, but the rest of us should have the option to roll the dice. 99% is pretty good odds.

The porn shop a few miles from me stayed open
The liquor stores
The Vape shops
The list goes on. “Essentials”
