Punkster55. Add a 1m umbrella policy to your home insurance. Should cost $300 or less for the year. Get all the material go down to Home Depot or other spots where the Mexicans and other illegals are. Get a crew of 5 for $750-1k for the day. It will take them 2 days and be done. Some of these guys got skills. If one falls off the roof your covered with umbrella. Print out a waiver of liability form and have them sign it. They will sign it and record it. Can’t guarantee the quality of the work. If you just need help this is the route.

Absolutely terrible advice. Liability waivers are useless and your umbrella does not cover people who work for you. You know those tv lawyers? They all have staff who habla espanol because of plans like this. But workers comp does and you just became an employer. But oh wait WC is one of those expenses the OP doesn’t want to pay for.

Infiniti brakes cost twice as much as a comparably-sized Nissan would. My friend being oblivious to knowing the price of replacing his Infiniti's brakes was the point of my bringing up the comparison to not knowing the costly maintenance bills of a home. Your personal thoughts of the brand are irrelevant to the discussion.

Sounds like just the type of thing you want to skimp on. Good luck to you.

My neighborhood's local FB groups are filled with people that want "cheap and reliable" plumbers or electricians or contractors or any other type of home improvement you can think of. It's the same folks over and over who are convinced that there's some unicorn tradesman out there that's going to save them a couple of hundred bucks AND deliver them a fantastic result. It's ridiculous. I get it that nobody wants to overpay, but sometimes the cost is what it is. If you can find somebody that has a track record of doing good work, suck it up and pay the guy.

Taxes so high they can't afford to fix the home

I'm turned off by pre-war and post-war housing now. Ideally all life systems in the house should be replaced every 20-30 years but nobody does that. Next time I buy the place has to be 20 years old or under. Only millionaires can afford older properties because they require constant upkeep.

It’s as ridiculous as the OP thinking he can replace his roof on his own or have it done for 6k!

I can't see why one can't do it on their own. Now in the OP's situation, a weekend with that pitch and a cape? No way. Will take him some time.

I had a 7, 7 1/2 (can't remember the exact number) pitch (single floor). Unless your roof is straight with just 2 sides, the valleys and peaks will take you a while to cut shingles and install flashing. When I redid mine, I went very quick along the long sides of the home, but that all slowed up with the cutting for peaks and valleys.

And a summer weekend? No way. Using asphalt shingles on a 70 degree day is going to make it like 90 or higher up there. Better to do it around 40, 50 and sunny as it will be at least 60 on the roof. Providing you have no trees blocking the sun.

I found out quickly why roofers start at 7 am and end at 9 am on a warm summer day.
