That's if there are people from those specific tribes to even say anything.

I don't think that would be an issue, as if anything, those names give a reminder of who lived/still lives in said areas.

Also, here is a segment, including a statement from a Seneca Nation rep: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/ca...school-mascots

Remember when we all voted to give the Board of Regents this much power? Yeah me neither.

Talk about mission creep. Oh well with this decision test scores should now go through the roof!!

They are appointed by Cruella DeVille or one of her minions

Wanna re-think that relative to the name-change zealots up in Albany?

"The department’s position on this is clear," Frank told Newsday. "If any team, mascots, logos or names have any connection to indigenous nations or peoples, either at the present time or in the past, they need to change their team name."

Beyond that, many of our towns/villages/hamlets/rivers are named after local native chiefs who were swindled out of their lands by white settlers. A painful reminder of past injustices. Those names, with strong connections to indigenous peoples , must be changed. Mineola and Wantagh are two such examples. There are many more.

This is kind if ironic considering how the Native Americans have been treated throughout history. Has anyone been to a reservation lately? How about this story:

Something to keep in mind is that the NYSED commissioner put this out initially in 2001, when Pataki(a Republican) was the governor: https://www.westirondequoit.org/pare..._directive_reg

I think this whole thing is disingenuous considering the disgraceful treatment of Native American in NYS.

Friends were "Red Raiders" with the old logo back in the day. The new logo with the word "Raiders" doesn't work.
