Long Island water OK? If not, filtered or bottled?

LI water isn't all that bad if you filter it right. I use this and it comes out ok. Dunno if it's good enough for bear grills though.

I once lived in Plainview, and I took a sample of the tap water and tested it for nitrates.

It came out at 4 mg/l, which is pretty good. Though, nowhere near as good as NYC water, which generally runs about 0.2 mg/l.

Nitrates are a fair indicator of how much sewage, fertilizer runoff, and other crappo is in your water.

Out East, look out! Some of the well water out there runs 15 - 25 mg/l, which is high enough to be distinctly unhealthy for infants and the elderly.
