There was one in Farmingdale on Main St. Then it became Associated Supermarket. Now it is a CVS pharmacy. There was also a Hills Supermarket around the corner on Conklin St.
Yes, I remember. I grew up in Northport, there was one on 25A I believe. I looked up online and saw that there were a few hundred stores in the NY metro area, they started in Queens. Closed in the late 70's. Named after H.C. Bohack. You know, I think if your last name is Bohack, it's ok to not name the supermarket after yourself, and pick something different. Anything. Just the initials "HCB's, that would have been better. Or how about just "Bo's". Or "King Bo's", and they could rival King Kullen. But they picked Bohack. Just saying.
There was one in Smithtown, in that shopping center near where Howard Johnson's used to be. I suddenly realize that is a lousy reference. The shopping center was the only one in Smithtown at that time, and it had two markets, of which Bohack was one. I remember they had no conveyor belts at the register. You put your groceries on a counter inside a wooden U-shaped box, and the cash register person would slide the U-shaped device and bring all the groceries down to the register. Then they would slide it bac for the next cusomer's groceries. The shopping center was opposite Landing Avenue on Rte. 25.
I remember the Bohack's in Mattituck that is now an insurance agency. Then they build a new Bohack Village on the other side of town that I worked in behind the deli counter for a year. That is now a check processing center for Bank One
There was a Bohack's in Hempstead. Still call it Bohack's.
