hahaha, thanks! we are moving from nj to long island (amityville) and we plan on sending our children (not yet school age) to catholic school. we are hearing from those who don't want us to move that due to decreased enrollment and church attendance that in 5-10 yrs all the catholic elementary schools will be shutdown....
why bother sending the kids to procial school, when Long Island has some of the best scholls in the country. why spend 10-20k on a private school, when you would already be spending 10-15k on school taxes??
My advice - choose your school wisely. Some schools are stronger than others. Pastors and principals are getting pretty cut-throat about....they have to be.
My sister used to teach at a Catholic school in Suffolk - she was constantly worried that it was going to close down. So was everyone who worked there.
So far I have only heard about one in mineola closing. Ours is still open. Hopefully it will be for 4 more years. The enrollment is about 350 now.
